Albeit most of us are obsessed with "pro bats" (Me being the first!) I strongly feel that we get our hands on better (if not, at least as good) bats as professionals.
I have gotten few bats which were destined for professionals and some which came out of their kitbags and I can safely say the bats we buy from market perform as well if not better.
Alas, an adage "it is batsman which counts not the bat." But who heeds to it anyways! :-[
Your thoughts fellas.

Very hard to tell Uzair especially not have had a Pro's bat...although mate of mine has Jimmy Hansra's BAS its nothing great...well i don't like it atleast but then I believe canadian players would be treated as club cricketers anyways...

they dont get anything different from what we can get!

What you mean when they smash something for 6 or perfectly time on on drive its not because their bat is better and that they have more ability? Crap this will take a dramatic rethink! Maybe I should spend a lot less money on bats, and more money on lessons and nets!

I think that the standard of the Custom bats on here means that you can at least get something very similar.
-
Not better but certainly not worse as we get the pro's rejects.
The only difference for us is that they get more than one custom made (20 or so!) and take the ones that feel best for them leaving behind the rejects for us customers .......... where as we usually get one custom made at a time so chances are it doesnt suit us perfectly.
I have used pro bats (top test players) and some have been awful but only because it didnt suit me..... For example Chanderpauls old match bat was like a twig and it was too light so it just felt wrong for me, yet a jayasuriya reject bat i had was very very good. I had a SA test player unused potentialmatch bat that was unused and it was marvelous, best bat i have ever had .... Bellingham and Smith.

I picked up one of Viv Richard's old bats at Spyder the other week, very small really, weighed no more than 2.11 and quite traditional, 7 grains, nearly broke a light fitting.
I have used 'better' bats than that though, I would say we are close to what they would get. Granted it was 28 years old, but still, you know what I mean

In my opinion the bats we can get are no different from pro bats they just use them a whole lot better!

Having used a few bats which were from Pros, I think there is a massive difference. I have used a top kookaburra which was purchased and the performance was amazing, however then using a pro's kookaburra, there was a noticable difference. I'd say the pick-up was better and just overall the bat felt better.

Haven't a clue really - all I know is that I score the odd run with my match bat and that'll do me.

There is no doubt that pros get bat made from the best and the lightest cleft available and I am not sure if the standard bats we get are same.

I guess we pay a fortune for them and they get given them?
-
Also recently picked up one of Dhoni's bats, 8 grains from memory, about 2.11 and was ridiculously good, but not THAT much better than the bats I own or have seen.
It's the bloke on the end of the handle I find makes most of the difference.

Most pro bats come with the aid of pro timing and pro strength making them perform a lot better than my bats...
-
It's like they're 'add ons' Tim.
It's like getting the new Ferrari with a V12 instead of a V8...all about the upgrades
-
Well after using Dave's (procricket) B3 bat destined for a pro I can honestly say it was better than any bat I've ever owned when I connected! The feel and pick up was astonishing! Just a shame he's to stubborn to sell me it! ;)

Indeed.
Alas, it is made from same English willow.
As far light cleft is concerned, well I would say thats what we think. What if their bats are extremely overdried? They are not meant to last a while anyways.

Any batmaker i have spoken to ( which is not that many) puts the best clefts aside for the Pros. i would say the pros do get the choice of the bats made from the best clefts and whatever process the batmaker does or the pro asks for will be done from the best clefts.
i.e. do we have access to as good a bat as Matt Prior or Tendulkar... No, but if we are quick enough, well connected enough and willing to pay the premium we can pay for a bat they have rejected.
The bats on here i woudl say woudl be a grade down from the best pro bats and better than those bought from a good sports shop and much better than those bought from a normal sports shop ( and Uzi Sports also being better than a good sport shop as well). Of course some of the bats on here will be as good or better than some of the bats being used by pros, as wood in not a consistant material to work with. Some of the bats on here look pretty much as good as you get both in looks, weight of cleft and finishing( hence us all spending too much on too many bats) Will they be better than Tendulkars who will choose from the best 10 bats from the best 10 bat companies each year.... i doubt it, but not far off.

The point of view of a bat maker regarding the bats he makes for pro's.. http://www.alloutcricket.com/player/gear/gear-this-week-ask-the-bat-maker-questions-answered (http://www.alloutcricket.com/player/gear/gear-this-week-ask-the-bat-maker-questions-answered)
