				Hi Guys,
I have recently bought a new bat. Whilst knocking in I've noticed I'm getting surface cracks along and interlinking between the grains. Over time I have gradually increased the force of which I'm hitting the bat. The bat has tight grains and a strip of heartwood, it has been oiled and doesn't feel dry, is the cracking something I should be worried about?
Cheers

				Hi Torque,
I've got the same thing knocking in my M&H - I don't think it's anything to worry about, in fact I'm sure I've heard that it's the sign of a good bat :)

Cheers James,
That's good to hear, it's makes a great sound and response when tapping a ball up on it.

Thanks for the reply Garrett,
Have you found they haven't lasted as long as other bats that haven't cracked whilst knocking in?
Thanks

I've scored 3000 runs with one of them but I lightly sand it every now and again and 1 coat of oil and 1 hour of knocking in say once every month or so.
Are the cracks down the grains or sideways?

The cracks are both along and across the grain.

Ok, cheers.
Do you use an antiscuff sheet?

			-
				No
But what I have started to use is a fibreglass sheet
People on here laugh at them but gayle and de villiers had them on their bats today
They are easier to pull off and i presume fibreglass hits a ball further than plastic ???

I normally do but I'm going to leave this one bare as I want to see it open up - plus I don't like a scuff sheet peppered with cherries
