Title: Is this anything to worry about?
Post by: EaglesCC on April 28, 2013, 11:23:04 AM
Ok been a bit over zealous with knocking in the edges and have a slight crack. Is this anything to worry about?

Also, first game of the season caused this wound... Again, anything to be done about it or just some tape over it and soldier on?

They're both fine. Just surface cracks.

What do you recommend to stop them getting any worse?

And what's the reason/ cause of them? Was it my knocking in? (Technique/ lack of)

Scuff sheet and edge tape should help them from getting worse
It might be your technique of knocking in but surface cracks are pretty common
Im no expert but thats what I think  :D

That's reassuring (that its not just me) but normally I have the bat knocked in which is usually pressed and rarely seen this before. This round I've deliberately not had it pressed so as not to make it too hard.

The one on the toe is around heardwood which doesn't have as much sapwood so is prone to getting little surface cracks. It's nothing to worry about.

The other looks like it needed a little more knocking in around the edges. Just stick a  scuff sheet on and it'll be fine!

Might also be worth using it for some catching practice and in the nets a few times before facing a hard new ball.

Thanks Ryan (and all)

I will be putting a scuff sheet on it and doing some more knocking in around the edges...
