Morning All,
I was after a bit of advice from fellow forumites please. After the first game of the season on Sunday I seem to have broken my little finger again. I did this a couple of times last season (on both hands) and I don't think it's ever healed properly. Every time I stop a ball now or just land heavily on my hand, I wake up the next morning with my finger badly swollen and bruised.
Does anyone have any advice on how to treat this or anything I could do to prevent it? Some people have suggested taping the little finger to the finger next to it (index?) but I'm worried that will affect my ability to catch the ball.
Any ideas?

I wouldn't have thought it will affect your ability to catch the ball too much...
I broke my thumb a few years ago, mis-judged a skier at long off and it hit the end of my thumb. The real mistake came from the consultant at the local A&E (the real pain came as I had to pop it back in place!). He immobilised my thumb after he saw the X Ray (to my protests; I used to volunteer as a Sports Therapist). The problem is I'd only split the bone down to a point before the knuckle joint, so it didn't need immobilising. Cue the build up of scar tissue and several extremely painful trips to a physio for friction massage to break it down.
I would go and see a physio - don't go to your GP or hospital; generally they have no interest in sports injuries and treat them as such. A good physio will give you the right advice and treatment and will recommend a course of rehab for you as well.
Depending on the break you may have a few weeks out - in my experience the worst advice sports people want to hear is 'rest!' A break takes 4-6 weeks to heal, no matter how small; you may have to bite the bullet and let it heal properly...

PST keeper tape is really good for joining the wrist up, but I've broken my finger a few times and it isn't the greatest for that, I'd go to see a chiro, try to find one at a univeristy or something as they'd be adept at sports injuries, I had broken my finger a few times, and went to see a chiro at my uni, and they taught my a different technique one that would slash the chances of getting hit on the finger again!
