The Squad is:
Cook
Anderson
Bairstow
Bell
Bopara
Bresnan
Broad
Buttler
Finn
Morgan
Root
Swann
Tredwell
Trott
Woakes
No Wright, No Hales, No Clarke, No Dernbach, No Patel
How many more chances will Rav Bop get? Any thoughts?
-
Would have had Wright/Hales/Anyone over Ravi, but other than that I think they've nailed it.
-
I think Wright can feel a little hard done by.
-
Looks to me like if your name begins with B you were in. Botham must be gutted!
-
Hales and Wright deserve a chance. I think Rav is lucky, but once again I think he is there for his bowling.
-
i think alex hales is a big mistake to leave out!
-
i cant work out what Bopara has done to earn a recall?
-
bopara must be very tight with some of the management, i cant see that he has done anything in the past 2-3 seasons worthy of a call up
-
Carberry averaged 85 in last years pro 40 what more can the lad do?
James Vince, Steven Croft, Varun Chopra, Dawid Malan, Luke Wright, James Taylor all had impressive Pro 40 campaigns last year so it doesnt make sense whatsoever for me.
-
Ravi and Ali Cook have been mates for years and were all coached by Flower and Gooch at Essex
-
Wright and Hales were very unlucky not to get a shout, I hope for England's sake Bop is just in the squad because he is the best 'waterboy' in England!

I think that's got to be it Buzz. If his dibbly dobblers are getting him in the team it's a sad day all round.
-
i agree about carbs! What more does a lad need to do?! arrgessive batsman and also i fantastic fielder!
-
Would have loved to see Carbs in there, he's a blinding fielder as well. I think Hales and Wright are very unlucky, Taylor is quite unlucky and I personally would have had Danny Briggs or Samit Patel just for the left arm spin option they offer.
I know he's not flavour of the month but what about Dernbach? I rate him very highly....
As for Rav Bop, he's a man who confuses me. I can understand the England selectors giving him numerous chances as I think he's got all the talent in the world I'm just not sure he'll ever show it at International level. I think he comes up a bit short mentally...
-
So that's the 15, what's the 11 in your opinion
-
Looks like England will go with what they know rather than change it up.
Looks pretty standard, all decent plays and if Ravi comes off, he will do a job. However he's not like a Hales/Wright who on their day can change a game in 40 minutes.
-
The only logic to Bopara being in on account of his bowling would have been if there were other potential "all rounders" in the squad, as there were ten-fifteen years ago; he won't be anyone's pick as a frontline batsman and he should not be one of five bowlers either. Wright....possibly could have been a fifth bowler...
Horrible thought here....do they plan to play six batsmen with Root sharing the ten overs with Ravi...ugh!
-
I find myself getting angry that Ravi has been given another place.
I know he is Essex mates with Cook butI'm starting to think he has some dirt on one of the England selectors!
Many names been mentioned here, for me cant understand how Ravi gets the nod before Hales/Wright/Lumb/Taylor/Carberry
If England keep selecting him rather than giving the experience to a young player like Taylor we could find ourselves in similar situation that the Aussies are currently in!
-
Another thing which I don't understand is Tredwell in the squad. He is a good bowler, but is he actually an option they are going to use? I think if they want another spinner in the squad who is handy with the bat, BIG BAD SAMIT has to be the one!
-
Hampshire must have really pissed off the management over the years. Carberry should be there and Briggs deserves a go in my eyes. Plenty of other players been ignored over the years. Only Dimi got a go
-
Hales and Wright I get, even Carberry (who is if nowt else a stellar fielder) but would you really want Lumb in an ODI? I just don't see it.
As for Tredwell, they may want to play two spinners in some games and he is deemed the next cab off the rank. Rather him than Fat Sammy mind (though Rashid is bowling well, taking a few wickets and scoring crucial runs...)
-
I think Rashid may be more of a 4 day option. I think he's taking wickets, but his economy may be an issue.
That said, I'm a fan, and I'd have bunged him in the squad anyway!
-
Carberry and Vince letting the bat do the talking versus Essex. Okay Essex are pie chucking but they've still got to hit it. 112 for 0 off 10 chasing 245

Wow , just saw this score , they're rocketing it :o!
-
I can see why Bopara gets picked. Hugely talented player. I think his bowling is underestimated, and if he could just achieve his potential with the bat then he would be a proper all rounder. Something we havent had for a while

you say that, and I can see why, but...
...in five day cricket, his selection (that of any leggie save Warne really) relies upon a five man attack.
In ODIs, as the fifth bowler and seven bat, you get a genuine wicket taking option in the middle overs and a gun fielder (one of the top half dozen in the country) who has won internationals with the bat. Compared to Swann, he might be a risk but to any other spinner th e overall package takes it. As an aside, its interesting that whlst his four day RPO is slightly higher than teh average, his limited overs and T20 RPO is below average for a slow bowler...
-
After tonight Vince defiantly deserves a chance. Balls to what they were saying about hants being a div two side. Who cares when your batting that well!!
-
i totally agree with 'the bird' that michael carberry is pure class and averaging what he did last year, he must feel a bit guuted. i mean what more does some one have to do to get a call up??
-
Since we're back on this one, I hope the doubters have noticed Rashid's excellent early season form... ;)
-
very happy Rashid has got his chance back in the yorkshire side, albeit via an injury
taking wickets again, not at the best economy, but what makes him a better option than rafiq is his batting, and he's getting plenty of runs at the moment, a good season could see him back in england contention
-
To be fair, he has been used sparingly and as an attacking option - Brooks, Patterson and Bresnan are keeping things very tight indeed at the other end from him!

Sorry for my pure stupidity here! What is the Champions Trophy?
