Title: Resin Infusion
Post by: n80krr on May 15, 2013, 10:18:56 AM
Sorry I know this is probably going to be a trade secret but I've just started fiberglassing at work and wondered whether your lids are made via resin infusion or whether you could enlighten me on how they are made as I'm becoming more and more interested in these subject as I'm learning different skills at work.
Thanks

Many different ways of making them that we tried when in the prototype stages back in 2007/8 you can either buy prepeg material or go down the resin infusion route as you say.

resin infusion looks to be the best way to get even coverage but prepreg may come out with dry spots? do you know how others create theirs? such as albion or masuri? I get injection molding on cheaper units?

Im not 100% sure about the others in all honesty as its very difficult to find out where they are made and find out the techniques used.

just remember seeing a mates masuri lid with dry patches of fiberglass on it, this was obviously way before i knew anything about glassing. now i'm starting to understand bits. that would have been a weak spot on the lid.
