Title: Not sure these are worth £80
Post by: 97notout on May 22, 2013, 11:12:30 AM
Okay as some of you know I have a few pairs of keeping gloves, mainly old but still useable. I also went down the custom road last year courtesy of Mr Wymer.

When I first saw the 2013 range of Nicolls keeping gloves I thought...................hmm not sure and the hypertec palms of the Legends, I also thought 'No, not for me'

Well I succumbed, being injured and off work doubled with watching a few YB40 games with Foster and Jones wearing them and feeling sorry for myself, I thought I'd cheer myself up and ordered some on line from Leading Edge Cricket.

They arrived yesterday, OSM size

Cost £80 with free postage, initial thoughts, still a bit hmm but hopefully in a couple of weeks time when I use them my mind set might alter.

Don't get me wrong they're a quality glove but a bit over priced

They are the comfiest and personally I think the best glove you can get so I guess you get what you pay for.

I actually got the Oblivion Players glove as it was £20-£25 cheaper and I could tell no difference between them apart from the palms.

That's a good point mate, can't grumble at quality, as with most modern gloves you can use them straight out the packet, can't wait to use them. I've no doubt they'll come down in price later in the year and it will be interesting to see where Gray Nicolls go with the next development of them, also how long the hypertec face lasts.

Yeah would be interested to hear your feedback on the new palms or anyone else that has used them for that matter?

I love my gloves, by far the best i've ever used!

I found them a bit on the flimsy side when I tried them on but that may just be because they are quite lightweight compared to most gloves. I was also put off by the price and a number of reports of last years Legend model tearing which you would not expect when paying that sort of money.
The palm still intrigues me, I know Jake at Vitas is using them so with a couple of users on here now a little review would be nice

Our keeper bought them and couldn't catch a cold! He bought another pair pretty sharpish! Maybe it was just him!

I have tried these gloves on and used them in the nets at the start of the season, personally I thought they were crap, palm felt lumpy and not very nice, look a bit cheap and just did not feel that great. Compare this to a pair of Gray Nicolls Evo players gloves I got from here the Legends were just awful.

Just my views but I do not rate these gloves at all.

I guess it just shows how much personal preference there is when choosing your gear then.

@no1red, tell your keeper to send them my way if he doesn't want them!

Love my Legends.

I didnt bond with them out the packet like I did with my 2012 ones, which were amazing (and yes my 2012's do have some minor damage between the fingers, but are still going strong) but they are very comfortable and supple, and are very nice now after a few games wear.

The palm looks different, but the ball feel is pretty similar to be honest. I have noticed that a couple of full length diving one handers have stuck when I would normally be 50/50 on what would happen.

The palm appears to be hard wearing compared to octopus or pimples, and also is much easier to clean.

I think considering the Kookaburra Players (previously the Haddins) are £130+ then Legends represent good value.

One of the keepers at my club bought a pair of these about a month ago and the palms are already wearing smooth.  Not good enough for a glove at any price. :(

Someone at my club has these and theyve fallen apart and required fixing already (bought them at the start of the season)

I've seen half a season old pair of these as well, and the palms were already rather worn down, compared to normal pimple or octopus grips

I think the Sussex keeper who keeps when Prior isn't playing has these Legends but has had them re faced with standard pimpled rubber. I reckon they'd be a good pair of gloves like that
