Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum (joined a week ago) and a big fan! About me: long story short - I'm based in NZ and I'm getting back to cricket after 10 years, used to play for my school team. I'm thinking of joining a club next season, which means I have about a year to get myself prepared (batting and fitness).
I managed to get a decent kit from India (SG gears). I have a Laver and wood reserve ultra bat at the moment and have placed an order for Laver and wood legend and MB Malik limited edition bats. L&W Legend would be practice/ bowling machine bat. Hopefully these 2 bats should arrive in couple of weeks time.
I'm going to India for a month to visit my family so thought I would use this opportunity to get a cricket bat. Now, my questions are - which is the best/ reliable company that would make bat to the specs for a decent price and have a good customer service.
Any input/ advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

A number of people on here have had custom Sareen Sports bats, which have been very nice indeed, and having used one, I'd have to concur that they are. Definitely worth a look.
-
Sareen sports are for sure great bats and I have had a custom one not custom for me but it went very very well.
There a topic on on about PR bats which I have used they go very well indeed as well.
Another lesser know brand sm pintu have made some good bats I have seen.
Bas might make you a special
Depends where you go Meerut or Jalandhar I guess which I could go to one

Thanks for the information guys. Can I contact them via phone and place the order or should I visit them to get a good bat/ deal? My hometown is Chennai which is pretty far from Jalandhar or Meerut. Also, what would be the price (approx)? I'm looking for something under Rs.10,000 or 200 NZD, can push a wee bit.

Bat cost Rs.9000 and was delivered to Chennai 11 days after placing order. Yet to use it in a match but seems to go like a rocket in throwdowns. I did knock it in very patiently mind you. My mate who got his a couple of weeks before me just made an eighty odd not out in his first match with it....

Awesome, thanks mate. How do I contact RNS? Is your bat G1 willow?
-
You would be hard pressed to get a response from SG or SS for just 1 custom bat made to your specs and under 10K Indian. Your best bet is Larsons as lethalshrapnel pointed out. Good luck with the trip, you must be nuts to be going back in this heat :o

Try pavilion sports in chennai
-
Grade 1 only. I'll send you a PM with the contact details...

@tushar: mate, I'm going to India in August, so it should be little better compared to May/ June. I might find it hard even in August as it would be 35+ degrees in chennai and one digits in NZ. Nothing much can be done aye, family commitments :)
@thedon: thanks for the info, will definitely go there. What are the prices like?
@lethalshrapnel: thanks mate :) do you play for any club in Chennai?
-
Yeah mate, playin for a friendly little club here. The heat is killing us but we endure. Mostly 30 over games now. We had one fifty over game last month but lucked out and got the oppo out cheap. Respect to those who have played test and first class cricket here. Can't even begin to comprehend what an entire day's fielding would feel like.
-
Oh nice..! which ground do you guys play? maybe If I have time, I will pop by :)
Which is the best shop to buy SS softs (gloves mainly) in Chennai? what are the prices like compared to onlinestockist.com
Cheers

Highly discounted softs plus an extra 25% at checkout. I've picked up some dirt cheap kit from here off late. A pair of SS Gladiators gloves(the new range) for around Rs1200 which is a little less than 15 pounds.
If you don't mind paying premium then Pavillion is a good place to start. They almost always have everything and the new range usually arrives in June to coincide with the start of divisional cricket so good timing for you.

And, oh, we are playing in a couple of local leagues here so matches take place in different grounds. From low skiddy turf wickets to bouncy matting and everything in between. Teams like us typically don't have their own grounds. We also net at a bunch of different places. Do drop in if you can.

will definitely check pavilion sports :). cheers

I am new to the forum. Need some help and guidance. I ordered bat from RNS company. I was having difficulty in contacting them. Its been 3 weeks and no response to emails or phone calls. The last message I received was "the bat will be shipped in couple of days" that was 3 weeks ago( after payment was made). So I am not sure if it was shipped. Is there a way to contact them. Please advise

You could probably drive down to Meerut from Delhi, not sure how long it takes now but I would hazard a guess that it would about 4-5 hrs or up Jallandhar from Delhi is about 6-7 hours now as the hwy is better. You get to enjoy the sites of the country a bit too that way :)....
If you do decide to go Jallandhar contact i12breakfree as he has contacts at KG so could help out.

Time from Delhi to Meerut should not be more than 4 hours (normally 2.5-3.5 hrs by car) provided you avoid peak times in the evening and festival days.
