Title: Graham Napier
Post by: SOULMAN1012 on June 03, 2013, 08:31:38 PM
Not a good night for Surrey

Also not great for the forum sponsored players Tom Jewel Aldred Golden and Jon Lewis with Aidos golden as well, 85 mph Yorkers are quite hard to play though.

Looks like Tom Jewel's Aldred didn't get a work-out today. Ooops!

He's showing england how to bowl at the moment napier vs dernbach ...

napier has had more success with variations it was a good slower ball to get roy

Always wanted to see him in an England shirt, whenever I've seen him on sky he's bowled high 80's just touching 90's

Dernbach v Napier, there's no question who's the better player. England crying out for a lower order batsman who can hit the ball out the ground. His 150 in the T20 v Sussex is still just about the best innings I've seen. Can't see Bresnan producing that type of innings.

I still find it hard that Dernbach gets an extended run yet Napier can bowl at 90mph, smack the ball into the next postcode, yet can't get a look in!

Criminal.

I was at Chelmsford last night. Napes bowled nothing different to how he always bowls, slingy full quick yorkers with the odd surprise bouncer. I have no idea how he's never considered for England, especially ahead of Woakes and Dernbach. He has been very successful with the bat too this year, in both CC and one day cricket. He would provide England with that kind of bowler who CAN bowl with the new ball and use it effectively, yet at the back end could bowl 5 yorkers an over and his slower ball to Roy last night showed his great variation. Who else could do this in the current team at the moment? maybe Anderson? that's it. He would be able to bat 7/8/9 and can literally hit the ball out of the ground. Seriously think it's a case of his face doesn't fit with the selectors, but looking at how the England team has been playing in the last couple of ODI's surely he's worth a shot until Broad and Finn come back?

But Slazenger or GN would sign him if he played for England. ;)

Not entirely sure that England can pick him now. Correct me if I'm wrong but they've named a squad, and now can't change it?

International Cricket is that next level though, swinging it round under lights at chelmsford has no bearing on whether he can bowl at the elite level. 7/32 is a great spell but would he've made any impact on sunday with guptill/taylor etc going after him on a flat road? His batting has never been consistent enough to be considered anything more than a biffer.
Great performance no doubt but his inconsistency has kept him out of the side.

He has been very inconsistent through his career. He is 33 now.

Napier today: 8-0-76-1.

Essex need 200 off 20 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Let's see how he bats under pressure?

Another good spell of bowling from Naps at the death last night to take the game from Hampshire and very unlucky in his first spell, he bowls serious wheels. Still find it strange that a guy who bowls 90mph, is dead eye accurate at the death and can send the ball out the park has never got a sniff for England.

Keeps getting injured at the wrong time which doesn't help, much like Onions

He had an inclusion into one of the 20-20 squads when Colly was Capt.
Never got a game though.

I've never figured it out. He hits the ball, well a mighty long way. Never forget the image of Bumble going into the garden of the flats at the back of the Chelmsford ground fetching balls during his epic knock.

I think Onions is just to 'samey'. A bit like the Indian, Kumar. No REAL pace and relies on swing and lower quality batters.
Nothing against the guy, but.

Must be worth a go in a few odis leading up to the world cup. A proven death bowler with pace is a must in oz, especially one who can clear the ropes with the bat.

Napier's face clearly doesn't fit, surely he was worth a go ahead of the likes of Dernbach but was never given the chance for some reason.

He wouldn't be the worst shout but surely his chance was a few seasons ago when he had "that innings" against my beloved Sussex. If anything his bowling has come on since and bar one innings at whitgift he hasnt come close to batting like that again. Would prefer him to Dernbach or Bresnan though

I'd Jade can get a game, I'm grabbing my bat.

I'm with you Cam.
