Title: Bare carbon helmets
Post by: smilley792 on June 17, 2013, 08:52:15 AM
Is there anyone else that does bare carbon helmet apart from ayrtek?

I really like the look of carbon, but unfortunately am not a fan of the ayrtek design.

A friend in the carbon business, did offer to take a mould of my old Masuri and make me one, but I am wary, due to it being a one of, and no impact testing on that.

Other option would be for me to have a bare plastic one "dipped" but that really is just going for the look.

Any input? Cheers

ayrtek is the only true carbon lid on the market!

like u said get a plastic one dipped if you want but it will never look the same as real carbon

depends on the finish of the plastic shell as the majority of them have an etched finish that helps to hide any imperfections when coming out of the injection mould.

True, so any shell I want doing will need finishing first,

If a plastic shell is copied then made from carbon fibre , surely it will be stronger? Due to the stronger properties of the material?

depends on the design and how its made, would still need to be BSI approved in order to be used technically.

With a new BSI standard due in later on this year all helmet manufacturers will be working towards passing this updated standard anyway.

So are you aiming to be better, or waiting until the standards are made clear? And then work to comply(if the ont already)
