Title: A few going out
Post by: Aldred Cricket Bats on June 18, 2013, 12:57:12 PM
A few here going out all bespoke fit. The little one is a size 3 but with a size 4 1/2 blade with a super short handle so we can just replace the handle as he grows, these are very popular with proper young cricketers parents as they get a proper bat not a piece of floor board with a handle in it that performs and they don't need to spend money on another the following season just replace the handle. It weighs 2lb and its as good as any adult bat.
More pics to come of the next lot made up to go.

Lovely bats. Certainly top of my list when the traditional "blame the tools" mid-season strop occurs!

Love the small bat and the thinking behind it. A truly pro service to us mere mortals.
That young player is going to be the King when he rocks-up with that. I can hear the rumble of orders coming over the hill!!!

Great work.

Stunning bats again paul. The junior willow will stand out a mile against all those kook adidas and gm junior bats.

Thanks for all the lovely comments guys. I love making the junior bats they are the same price as the silver sovs but they are proper bats and the kids get more. Aloe for their shots and the parents get more value for money. I could easily sell a load of rubbish to kids and keep getting sales but I couldn't live with that as I always remember my first real bat.
Will put some more pics up ask make them up just give me a shout if you want anything

How much do you charge for the junior bats Paul, and how much would each re-handle cost, just curious to the long term cost compared to ever increasing Puma/kook/Adidas bats.  Because it looks just brilliant.

The junior bats cost the same as the silver sovs £125. That sounds expensive for a kids bat which it is if he is not a serious cricketer, but in general they last them for 3 years unless they have ridiculous growth spurts and you have a proper bat that gives them value for their shots and you average out in one handle change really. A new handle is £30 plus p&p. now I've not Even looked at the cost of the big brand junior bats as they don't interest me as I don't consider them as proper bats for what they charge but if they charge £80 for what is supposed to be a descent bat and you have to buy another next year you have saved money. It's just what you want and if you want branded mass produced kit and that is what we are trying to move away from.

Not knocking your approach at all Paul, it's a brilliant idea, especially as i have to agree that a lot of the bigger brands sensibly priced junior bats are pretty ropey and the good ones are £100+

Although you can get some good stuff for decent prices from small to mid sized brands, Boom Boom (if they haven't gone bust, no-one really knows) and Hunts spring to mind.

But weight is just as important as size when it comes to choosing a junior bat is it not? A kids weight requirements could change dramatically in 3 seasons.

I agree but like I mentioned you can't account for growth spurts. But from my experience this system works pretty consistently and as the bat maker you can actually ask questions and see the size of the parents which gives you a fair idea of how the kid is going to grow. Now I know we can only guess these things but it does give you an idea and you can create a bat to fit what you think. Weight is incredibly important and a coupe ounces over the space of a couple of years with a young player won't make that much difference and if it does there are ways of adding weight and also a longer handle will add an ounce or so. It's worked well for me so far that's all I can say.

Brilliant concept, and will definately take you up on it at some point.

So here's the thick me, at what age would you recommend to begin the process with, or rather bat size, also is there a good guide to the correct bat size for juniors.

My 8 yr old wants a bigger bat, and my 5 yr old currently size 1 wants a size 3 or 4 because he's seen one.

I know when I was a kid I wanted a bigger bat than I should have had.

I think size 4 up is best that one was a 3 but he is a very good cricketer for his age. I just think it is false economy too young but if they are size 4 on I reckon you start to get use out of them if they are serious young cricketers. I don't like to see people wasting their money I know how hard it is to earn.

The one on the left is a serious looking bat Paul, great work!
