Title: Any ideas for a bat, £120 budget
Post by: yuonskelton on June 19, 2013, 10:36:50 AM
Hi Guys

I am in the market for a new bat, looking for something with a lowish middle around the 2.10 mark. looking to spend a max of £120 and just wondered if anybody knew of any good deals about.

Thanks

Solitaire might be an option.

Or speak to MSR, Red Ink, DS Cricket, Ryan at Kelsall Bats and the usual shops like Vitas, IJC & Uzi Sports.

I waas going to say.....speak to the retailers and bat makers on here. You should be able to grab something very good for that price!

We have this in 2.9.  Stick a 2nd grip on it (advisable given the thin chevron) and it'll be 2.10.  Certainly has a lowish middle, and taps up very well too... In my opinion, Newbery 5 Star bats offer perhaps the best value for money of any bat on the market today - the performance you get for the price is (in my opinion) almost impossible to beat! http://www.itsjustcricket.co.uk/cricket-bats-c17/senior-cricket-bats-c18/newbery-mjolnir-5-star-cricket-bat-p354 (http://www.itsjustcricket.co.uk/cricket-bats-c17/senior-cricket-bats-c18/newbery-mjolnir-5-star-cricket-bat-p354)

That bat is a gun.
I tapped-it-up when I was at IJC recently.

It's the bargain of the season!

Guys

Thanks for your suggestion, lots of options to go through. Solitaire looks like what i am after, anybody on here used them before?

I've not used them but i believe they have a habit of sending you a heavier bat than your ordered

Salitaire are a decent bat, but as iand123 said, they do tend to do heavier bats!
I have rarely seen one under 2'11/12 although I would hope that they are better these days?

Solitaire as mentioned above do seem to offer heavy bats. So if you're after a bat around 2lb 9oz it might be a struggle to get them to do one.

Aldred Silver Sovereign springs to mind.

You will need to check to see if Paul has any new silver clefts in.

Nearly forgot.

Matt@ H4L has a Hattori Devil grade.
Not sure the weight but I pinged it last week and it's sweet.

He charges £120 for the Devils. I've got 2 1/2 and all go amazingly well.

Definitely a solitaire, they ping nicely and are custom made to your person preference. Even though they do have a tendency to deliver heavier bats they can be sent back to roger and he'll happily do a weight reduction.

Whilst its good that you can send them back surely if you ask for a certain weight you should get it, thus removing the need to send it back?

For the money you can't go far wrong with Solitaire. Quite a few team mates use them and tried a few. Most a bit heavy for me but one of them just flies. Lads all seem very happy with theirs. Roger did a great job on my salix repair and very helpful throughout, even texting pictures before carrying out re-handling.

This!
Its a fantastic bat for only £125. Great ping, lovely G2 willow - and you can customise it they way you want.

Did you speak to Paul @IJC about the Newbery he's got?

I will recommend you to look for custom bats of Grade 1 quality. If you are not specific on getting a new bat, you could go for refurbished grade 1 quality bats from the forum. It is possible for getting them at the rates you mention. I got a Vantage, (though little used ones at nets), not a big deal on it. Its really great and weighs 2.11. Great ping and a very good willow.

I have to say that a Newbery Mjolnir 5 Star and a H4L DVL grade Hattori are probably the best bats I have bought at that price range. (Excluding all 2nd hand bats) I got my Newbery from Paul at IJC, but I think that any of the forum sponsors would be a good shout. If neither of these quite catch your fancy, you could try a GN Powerbow Strike, just look for one without a grain sheet! Even an A61 400 is a good shout, I hear IJC goes down to Robertsbridge (I think!) to pick some out quite often! :)

After speaking to a couple of people I have decided to go for a Red Ink. So far John has been brilliant and gave me a choice of 5 clefts. Can't wait for its arrival and will post some pictures up when it's here!
