If you had the chance to try out 3 bats from any manufacturer what would they be and why?
Mine:
1. Gray Nicolls E41 custom (the one in the UziSports section looks amazing)
2. Salix Torque Players (want to see if all the good things I hear about them is true)
3. Blueroom Custom (from what iv seen on here they are meant to perform)
-
GN: Custom
B3: Custom
CA: 1300
-
Laver
B3
H4L
-
Salix Torque Players
Laver
Vantage Lithium LE
-
Aldred
Bb
B3
-
Also why would you choose those 3 bats?
-
Newbery kenkos
Blackcat f40
Aldred
-
B3 bespoke
Blueroom LE
SAF
-
These are new bats to me;
GN Dynadrive LE. I'd really love to get hold of one of these.
H4L Hattori. Getting my hands of one of Matt's lightweight clefts and the low middle, yes please.
Aldred Vintage. Again, loving the profile and one of Paul's top clefts would be a treat.
Choice. Preatorian. Again, one of Gary's best clefts and a chance to get a completely bespoke bat.
It's 4, but why not!
-
B3 Bespoke
GM Flare Shane Watson Edition
M&H Amplus
-
1. Screaming Cat: would love to use a bat made by a legend in the cricketing world.
2. Laver Signature: my Special Reserve is great, so would love to try this top of the range.
3. Chase FLC or GN Dynadrive LE: these bats just look lovely
4. Aldred bat: the picture on the forum speaks for themselves!
-
Stock bats from larger manufacturers in no particular order;
M&H Original Low
GN Legend
Kook Bubble 2
Custom bats from some smaller manufacturers;
H4L Custom
Blue Room LE
Laver & Wood Custom
-
I would love to try
1) Laver and Wood Limited.
2) A screaming cat bat, i think it would be amazing to use a bat made by one of the greatest podshavers.
3) A SAF bat.
-
1. Affinity Carbine - would love to see what everyone's talking about. Everyone on here who has used one raves about them.
2. Spartan MC 329 - a real one, obviously, just to see if it lives up to the price tag/hype
3. SCAT S1 - well, it would be rude not to really.
I was going to mention Aldred but I imagine I'll probably get one as my next bat - the photos look amazing - so I'll go with something I'd never actually pay for (Spartan).
-
1. Black cat Joker
2. Laver & Wood Signature
3. Dynadrive LE
-
A screaming cat - to have a bat made by the master
a newbury cenkos - see if it's worth the £1k
a black cat joker - love these bats but not sure if i'd play my naturaly game with it or not
-
mmm
Not many i have not tried
Maybe
Affinity
Some local made Indian Bat
Kookaburra Kahuna
Off top of my head i guess the Sg/Kook so thats about it..
-
SCAT Series 1: legendary bat - say no more!
Affinity Carbine: a lot has been said about this brand and really want to give one a try.
H4L Hellfire: would love to try a H4L. Tempo is too heavy so a Hellfire will do...
-
Good question...I think the only ones on my list would be..............
1. Blue Room LE (I had a Swell G1 and regret selling it as it superb, so an LE would be interesting to see how it compares to other top bats I have!)
2. Spartan MC329 (I have used one of Chris Gayles actual bats and it was too heavy for me...so the MC at around 2'10 would be great to try!)
3. Either a top of the range Aldred or a GM Flare Players Watson or old model Newbery GT355 SPS! (For different reasons - the Aldred as I hear excellent things and would love to see how these compare. And the Watson Flare as I just got hold of an 808 Flare and although not particularly big compared to other 2'10 bats these days, it still feels like a lovely pick-up and taps up nicely so I'd like to try the Players edition! The GT355 is a higher middle like the Flare, and I sometimes feel that this midddle position suits me better?)
The only other contenders would be bats like the Newbery Cenkos, or the Red Inks and other small but professional custom bats!
-
Much like Pete (in fact due to Pete!) I have been lucky to try out a lot of great bats but the ones that I would still like to try are:-
1) One of the re-made Symonds Super Tuskers
2) One of the re-made SS Jumbo's
3) One of the Slaz bats that has the TAS inserts on the edge.....
-
2nd go for me:
1. W.G. Graces bat
2. Don Bradmans bat
3. Bothams DF Magnum
All in condition as when they were using them (rather than plucking them off the pavilion wall at lords and giving a swing)
-
I would love to try:
a Screaming Cat: a couple of guys I play with have them and they seem great, plus it would be awesome to own a bat made by Julian Millichamp.
a B3
an Affinity: heard a bit about both of these brands (b3, affinity) so I would love to see how they go in the flesh.
-
Affinity Carbine/Spectre (preferably both) - having seen and tapped up the 2 when Paul had them in his shop, was mighty impressed and would definitely get one if I was a decent player and could justify spending 300+ on a single bat.
Aldred - been very impressed with pictures and reviews that people have posted on here.
Black Cat F40 - looks awesome...
-
1. Willostix Spitfire Classic
2. Hammer Hel 156 Platinum
3. Affinity Spectre
Because having knocked them all in recently, they seem like absolute guns and are all the right sort of profile shape for my game too...

Pete was expecting you to have used most bats available.
-
Aldred - because I love all the willow pics Paul puts up
Salix - because I have never tried one in my wight range (sob - less than 2lbs 11)
BAS pro bat - given the number Sachin has used, they must be ok
SG Pro bat - ditto for Sehwag.
I know it is four - but I couldn't split the SG and BAS options.
It should be worth noting that I am very privileged to have tested a great number of bats and these are still on my list to test...
-
Pete was expecting you to have used most bats available.
Indeed I have a fair amount, and I have been blessed enough to have some great contacts and friends who have provided some unreal bats. :)
-
1. Newbery Cenkos
2. Laver & Wood Signature
3. GN Nemesis
-
1) Willostix Slugger (well, you have to don't you!)
2) H4L Tempura (T20 version of the Tempo - gives more of a battering)
3) Larsons Top of the Range (the low grade ones are pretty spanky, so a top one must be mental!)
-
2) H4L Tempura (T20 version of the Tempo - gives more of a battering)
I'm back at H4L next week, I must ask Matt if he's consider such a beast.
It's an awesome name!
-
That reminds me....a T20 version of a H4L would be pretty awesome.
Plus I was loaned an Affinity Spectre for a couple of nets, and I reckon the Affinity T20 model would be epic!
-
1. Python cricket pro grade bat
2. Gray nicolls legend/custom
3. M&H master
-
1 - affinity toro
2 - saf hades
3 - laver ultra
There were loads more I'd like to try including black cat joker, screaming cat etc but I reckon that's the top 3. I'm probably never likely to get any of these though as they're a bit out of my price range, I think a devil grade tempo will be my next bat.
-
1. B3 top of the range
2. M&H Master (my mates Amplus is ridiculous, best bat I have ever picked up)
3. GM LE Octane
Would also love to try an SS Pro issue or something similar. May have to give Asad a call one day...
-
H4l tempo(as I like the large cleft look, maybe my next bat)
A laver and wood(I like the look and rep of the brand, but it's a tad far to order one from IMO)
Chris gayles actual spartan(want to know if it's his bat, or his build that sends it so far.
-
CA 15000
TK Made Laminate
Custom Made GN
-
Id go with:
Laver & Wood Legacy- get some slow and low decks here in Darrzett so could suit me and the pitches I play on.
SAF Hades- Great looking bat, top workmanship.
Lastly, an Aldred. The willow and the pictures Paul shares are always something to whet ones bat buying appetite!
Some interesting views from people!
-
CA 15000
TK Made Laminate
Custom Made GN
Very good choice, being proud owner of CA 15K and TK lam, i can vouch for them.
-
Aldred - they just look like proper bats.
Bellingham and Smith (last year's style) - ditto above
Blue Room/Robert Pack Bombora - hear lots of great stuff about these bats
-
Luckily i owned most of the top brands so my choice would be these three because i don't have these.
1- Newbery Cenkos
2- Salix Torque Players
3- Any top of the range Aldred bat (because of great reviews on forum)
-
Mangoose (Would like to know why Hayden used it ??? )
Sachins' Adidas (Have heard that it weighs heave so would like to have a feel of it :D )
Laver (Have heard it as one among the best bats in grade 1)
-
This is too tough to just pick 3 makers but these would be my top three at the moment of the custom companies and off the shelf companies (no particular order)
Custom companies:
Aldred – like the shapes and quality of the bats that have been appearing on here of late.
Hell4Leather – Like the branding and the profiles in the range also the good things people have been putting on here about their experiences.
SAF – Andy has some very technical principals behind his bats with the offset edges, CtoV profiles etc... I think I would be there all day discussing the technical side and what shape would work best.
Off the shelf companies:
M&H - Distinction & Master specifically – I have had many M&H bats including Julian Millichamp made ones from the early 90s so these would pretty much complete the set of shapes for me.
G&M F2 Octane/Icon, never owned a G&M, also would be interested to see if there is any substance to the flat face trend, also not recently owned a non-handmade bat. I have only seen one F2 bat in the wild and guy using it was out first ball LBW!
Salix - always look top notch and branding looks classy but not had a hit with one.
Honourable mentions for the ones that didn't quite make my final 3 but, I always flit between any of the ones mentioned above and the following (in no particular order): Black Cat, Affinity, Chase, Bull Dog, Charlie French, Hawk, Choice & Rob Pack.
-
I kind of went through this thought process a while ago, as a result I got a Laver made just for me, it's wonderful. I then bought a custom SAF which is just amazing.
So I get to choose three more...
SCAT Series 3
Aldred
And I think RPC
I love brand loyalty but there are just so many brilliant looking small bespoke firms out there that it might be nice to try a bat from most of the guys on CBF, my bank account may not like it, but what the...
-
I think I spent 600 quid on kit in 2011... I think I spent 800 on kit in 2012... and I've spent about 1200 again in 2013.. pretty much everything new each season :)
-
Its got to be a laver and wood signature for looks and performance.
Aldred bats, they look so amazing and the profile leaves me in awe everytime I see it.
Hell4leather, Ive always wanted to try one of these out
-
That reminds me....a T20 version of a H4L would be pretty awesome.
Plus I was loaned an Affinity Spectre for a couple of nets, and I reckon the Affinity T20 model would be epic!
Paul @IJC had an Affinity Toro. The exact T20 bat you talk of.
It had amazing grains and pinged like nothing else!
cool branding too.
Ask him if he can get another.
-
Laver and Wood Signature and Newbery Cenkos simply because they cost so much
And a Aldred Supreme because they look really really nice
-

Affinity are sold out for 2013. Paul's is also a one off grade 1 i believe. In addition to the normal run, there will be a small number of G1 Toros next year i think, but Marcus is the best person to ask about the details i guess.
-
Hmm this is a tough one as there is so much choice out there and there is so much I have already tried
One bat that keeps calling me is H4L Tempo, some day I will get one.
Other than that I think a Hammer bat would be interesting, I have tried a couple now that belong to friends and these are a different league all together.
Third would be SS pro bat, which I am in the process of getting. Some bats that were destined to CSK players but weren't used, we'll see what they are and if they are what they are claimed to be when it gets here did see one at a tournament 2 weeks ago that was supposed to be for M Vijay and at 2'9 it dwarfed my 2'11 bats.
For those thinking of BR LE I have one, my RPC was/is the best bat I have ever owned till the Blue Room LE which I purchased earlier in the year.
And Aldred have been noticable lately so that might something to think about too..
-
MH master ..... looks a beast
B3 ......... Want to try one of the JT bats
Python? ......... Seen something on twitter and the clefts look amazing
-

I'm very excited to say that the IJC affinity toro is now part of my bat collection and the grains are indeed first class :)
-
Screaming Cat Series 1 or 3, pressed by JM himself - So I could have a bat made by who is possibly the best podshaver around.
Newbery Cenkos - To see if it is really worth the £1000 price-tag, or if it's just an overpriced G1. (Will most likely be the latter!)
A BAS made by their master podshaver, the one who made bats for Sachin, assuming he still makes them. Will most likely be the best Asian bat money can buy!
-
1) A Puma pulse ipl,
2) a gm argon le,
3) a kook viper
Custom:
4)GN DYNA custom
5) Scat
6)b3
-
Although I'm more than happy with the Warsop Platinum I got at the start of the season it seems us cricketers can't wait to try something new!! My choices in no particular order:
Blueroom custom - guy at our club has one and it goes like a train!
Aldred - Paul looks to be turning out some stunners just lately!!
H4L Hattori - hear nothing but good things about them
After discovering this forum there's no way I'll go back to using 'off-the-shelf' bats.
-
For me
Laver and wood
Amplus
Short blade mongoose
-
1. Laver and wood signature, £1000 for a bat, must be good!
2. Gary Nicolls dynadrive le from vitas cricket, grains! And love the shape.
3. And of course the new gray Nicolls nemesis. Love the shape, but will it work?
