Been very impressed with BuddyB’s [upcoming Brand RJ] latest creation, so I called dibs on his first 2.7 – 2.8 bat and he agreed to oblige. RJ let me have my pick of the last two clefts and within a day of me confirming my choice, he has already sent me progress pictures.
Currently weighs just under 2.7 without stickers, grips etc.
I will post a full review in coming weeks.

I would say it looks very SAF-ish too, might just be the shape of the spine at the toe though!

Looks nice!
-
love to see the spine go all the way to the toe

Nice bate mate. Custom bats are always awesome :)
-
cheers, I have been a very fussy customer, let's hope I get some runs too. Went for a thinnish oval handle.

After a call from mail room talking about a suspicious package I have been very distracted at work all day and could not wait to get home to open up the packaging. At just a shade over 2.8 this is easily the lightest bat I have ever owned. Will not win any grains competition but the balance and sound off the mallet more than makes up for it. Side by side with my 2.12 SS it looks like a teenage kid. Cannot wait to get in nets and try out some old balls. Black grip would have made it more striking but I went for gold on purpose. The stickers are minimalist, very decent and does not seem to take over the bat. Communication with the bat maker has been second to none and I have been kept up to date with progress and pics. Now let's just hope I get some runs and Mrs. doesn't notice the change in stickers from SS. Not a good idea taking wife along when buying a bat.
If I have mark down on anything, it has to be packaging. Basically it was just some bubble wrap and brown paper with a note saying "handle with care". Nothing against Royal Mail but this is a bit too trust in them. Thankfully she has made it home in one piece.

you've got black tape on your bats, sorry but i cant take anything you say seriously!!! :) :) :) :)
-
Nice bat, but why is it marked Grade B?
-
need to be careful with the brand name :(, there is already a brand in Australia called RJR, just be careful. :-[
-
That's a nice bat and has good profile for its weight.

Cardinal sin, I know mate, ran out of fibreglass tape so just used some duct so keep it together.

It's a G2 cleft may be that's why Grade B. It is not my brand so not too bothered about name but I will let the pod shaver know.

I don't think the grade of the willow would affect whether it was type/grade a b or c under MCC law, unless it is a covered bat.

You are correct. However I could not figure why it had a grade B sticker on. According to MCC definitions, it should be Grade A, first I thought it may due to Toe Guard but it is alright for Grade A to have toe guards. There is no other cover so no idea, I can only assume that he only had these stickers left. MCC also states that these stickers are not a requirement for club level cricket.

Unless grade B is RJ's equivalent of grade 2 willow?

It's something I am experimenting with my grading scheme. Each letter has its equivalent grade and type. This is due to being able to access 8 different variety of grades to pick from. Grade b is g2 type A. Still in a design process and working on different ideas. Also RJ is my initials. It's a signature so I'm not breaking any copywrite unless my name already is. :)

Bats are looking good. :) I'm not too sure about the grading though, it just seems rather confusing for folk who have already accustomed themselves to G1/2 and Type A/B. :-[

Well, you don't know till you try these things. The palmist has been very lucky to have exclusively the first bat produced outside of design development. There's a few things to tinker on. Once everything is 100% a new set of stickers will be in the post. :) how many people do that for a customer.

That is true! Are you planning on going for 8 grades, or keep it simple with around 4? I'm just not sure if naming 8 different grades will be the easiest thing to do! :)

Well it's still a working idea how I'm going to do it. Another idea is breaking it down to high end of each grades. So even a grade 3 will the best you can get. Or doing it more grade 1+, 1, 2+, 2, 3+, 3. Lots of ideas floating about atm. I have 20different versions of this one design so it's putting all the ideas into one. Some bits work some don't. The joys on product design.

Perhaps you could grade by looks and density/performance? Maybe G1+, G1, G2+, etc etc. It should work out. :) Where abouts are you based btw?

You didn't tell me about new stickers :-). Early days but happy to be reference if you need to. Quality, Service, Communications and Workmanship have been great so far. Will update more once I have used her in nets/match.

I like to look after my customers. Customer service and product of a high standard is what I want people to associate with my bats I produce. I shall note that in my design book chad. I'm based in Norwich.

Used in a 20 20 match today. Middle is amazing, the sound is just divine. Even the edge flew for four. Hoping to use it for a bit longer this Saturday.
