Title: Australian Custom Companies
Post by: Rowan on June 25, 2013, 06:04:23 AM
Hey Gents,
since joining this forum, ive been really keen to support the little guy, but you all seem to be based in england. In september I am able to buy my next bat, and I have up to $250AUD to spend on it. Does anybody know of Australian companies who will make a cracker for this price as my Dad makes me pick up and feel a bat before I buy it  :-[.

yeah might be overshooting the mark a bit, maybe I will just go to Greg Chappell and have a look at the GN's, Kookaburra's and Pumas etc.

There is a list made on hear before,  will try and find it for you. More custom companies in oz than you think.

Why not find a bat you like the feel of and get a forum sponsor to make a copy of the profile and specs.. You will certainly get more bat for your money

Jenko, I'd be keen to see it too if you can find it.
Rowan, I'm in a similar boat & struggling to find anything top quality at a similar price, although Wombat have one that is their top of the range pretty close to that. I have no idea what they are like, but Aussie from the forum has spoken very highly if them.

I'd do what number4 suggests. You could get a custom bat from the UK shipped to Oz for that, just match it to your specs when finding a bat that you like!

Cant seem to find the list, off the top of my head in OZ/NZ we have:
- Julian Millichamp (screaming cat)
- Laver and Wood
- Fisher Bats
- Blue Tongue Sports
- Whitsunday Bats
- Cricket Wizard
- Mg2 cricket
- Willow Wizard
- Bradbury
- Callen Cricket
- Wombat Cricket

I'm sure there are more out there this is just what I can think of. I am a massive fan of the forum bat makers though can't go wrong with any of them. Postage is a killer but even taking that into account you can get a top grade piece of willow to your specs and still save loads compared to Aussie prices for top willow. You wont regret it!

Thanks for all of these ideas guys, this is why I love this forum, such a wealth of knowledge
My main concern is that, if i got a custom from england the postage and the bat would need to be around that $250 aud mark if not lower
Thanks Guys

P.S I am also after a light bat around 2.6 short handle if that helps  :-[

Ah yeah you make a good point, you could still however get a great bat for around that, fully custom made. Not too sure on postage costs but I don't think they're that expensive if you shop around, and the guys on here are normally very good when it comes to customer service. Have a word with them and see what they say!

It shouldn't cost that much to get it shipped over here.

Going from here to the UK though, that's about right, haha.

No you can probably get around 45-55 AUD on most bats shipped although it can be more

Look here. Your only chance of getting it as low as 20-30 ozzie dollars is going the snail mail option, which I wouldn't bother with.

I've bought from suppliers on here, and forum members. Usually looking at around the $40-$50 mark and they are on my doorstep within a week easily. It seems alot for postage but if you can scrape the extra money together you will save a heap in the long run for a good stick as compared to buying one in Australia.

I recently got a blank bat  - Sent on a Monday and arrived within the week. Decent shipping price too

My last two bats I've spent $300 AUD on, which rival and beat any off the shelf $700 bat you could get from over here. Don't see the need to spend any more than that now.

Sorry to get to you so late, but you definitely should have gone with a Gabba, I know a few first grade players at my club and junior state reps have sponsorships with them, as well as many 1st grade players in brisbane.
