Ok so I bought some P2's recently off ebay for cheap. They were so small I could barely do the straps up. But the one net session I had with them they felt so good. So Light. 284 grams. Its like not wearing pads at all. They do look stupid though. Anyway I decided to buy some P1's in a bigger size so I could at least test them out properly. I have been wearing them for a few weeks now and I have to say these are the bomb. I don't care that they look stupid. They really do look stupid. I've worn them in one match and I got some stick for it. But so what. It just makes me play better.
The P1's are heavier than the P2's but they are still so light. And the protection is sensational. I'm facing some really quick guys in the nets and I feel safer in these than any other pads I've worn. My Ballistic 6000's are just awesome but there is still the chance of taking a ball to the side of the leg. The Aero's wrap your leg completely. Th other really interesting thing about them is the shape. So they're designed to deflect the ball away from close in fielders and also reduce the chance of the ball deflecting onto your stumps. The inside part of the front pad is squared off. I took had a ball jag back at me yesterday and hit me on the inner half of the front pad. With any normal pad the ball would have been deflected onto the stumps or through to first slip. Instead it was deflected back down the pitch.
If these things stop me from getting out in just one innings I think they are worth it.

I personally don't like the look of them, but my son has been using them this season and also swears by them.
I call them giant shinpads.

Yeah aero softs are great the pads the gloves the srtrippers ! advanced designs.

They look seriously disgusting though...

I think you may be over stating the design aspect, I don't think they are designed to deflect the ball away from the stumps

I tend to agree. Too many people look at them as a joke but they do a great job. Not so sure they deflect the ball away from your stumps but if the batsmen thinks they do and therefore plays with more confidence then every credit to him.

Wouldn't deflecting be bad, say if you get an inside edge and it go up due to the rebound qualities?

I think he means that due to the design of the pads (being square fronted) the ball tends to bounce back down the wicket than towards short leg etc.

The first version of the P1 legs did have high rebound characteristics, but the version currently on the market has super low rebound foam in the front leg which means that the ball from a bat/pad will carry less than if it hits traditional pads. That's why the P1s are heavier than the P2s and the coloured P1s - which are still high rebound to increase leg bye potential in limited over cricket.
