Looking into getting new pads because quite frankly my Morrants aren't padded enough, I won't be able to buy any for a while yet but just putting out the feelers as to what are the best all-round pads i.e light, comfortable, protective. Btw I'm 6ft 2 so sizing may also come into it.
I do like GM stuff (shock) so Original pads may be on the cards. Interested to hear what people think.
-
save up and buy the L.E's!
-
They're heavier than the Originals though aren't they? Is the protection that much better?
-
Buy the thruxton pads that soulman has for sale, I've got a pair and they're great. Admittedly I don't face anyone quick so the protection is more than adequate for me but I'd think they would hold up well. I'm also 6'2 and standard mens are a good fit alongside a set of large mens strippers.
-
no idea, but you are big enough to wear them. and they really aren't heavy!
-
I have last year's Vulcan Zeus pads. The pu's scraping off and the stitching has come loose on one top hat, but they're light, comfy beyond comfy and very protective.
-
mmmm L.E.'s...

Mine were £30!

You'd do worse than look at SS softs Joe - they make for many other brands and they are well made, lightweight, reasonably priced and comfy.
The Vitas stuff and the Bulldog stuff is also superb for the money.
-
Ooh yes for Bulldog.
-
Buzz man, the leather instep on your pads, what sort if condition is it in after a couple of months of wear??
-
Well, his Filipino House-boy starches it nightly - so it's looking pretty good.
-
Thanks guys, as I said I can't afford any new pads for a while. I'm quite light wearing on equipment, never worn pads or gloves out ever after season after season of use
-
I love the look of the Vulcan kit it's amazing in person!

I will have a look later. I would suggest they have only had about 6 games and 4 nets though, so still nearly new!

That's fine mate, I just want to compare them to my bats which fell apart after 1 innings
-
My legends are falling apart at the seams as well after a month use I love the pads but some of the stitching is quite poor and the minor touches are not what you would expect from a 90 pound pad.
Overall I'm starting to think robinsons are one of the better vendors of sorts out there
-
Really surprised that the Morrant pads dont provide adequate protection . Would you not be able to tear up some old thigh pads and add that to left the left pad like Tendulkar does ?

I could do but I still think I prefer the more traditional looking pad, plus I'd need to buy a thigh pad, cut it etc and just seems more hassle than picking some GMs or SS
-
Kookaburra pads are pretty solid mate

Mine are still going strong after 18 months of heavy use. I'm going to stockpile a couple of sets in case they ever discontinue the range.
-
Well maybe I got a bad set but the pu is quite poor wearing in comparison with my ss le embossed and the top bat stiching has come off and te bottom strap the chequered meterial has come right away just leaving the black band
-
Gray Nicolls Legend or GM Original LE.

agree a quality pad but after 6 innings (3 big innings i guess) :D
After buying and using quite a number of pads in the last 5 years i agree there a quality pad bar these issue which i find a little bit poor to be honest.....
ps there kept in the original bag and i have owned 2011 legends..

I understand wear and tear yes the pu is quit flimsy on these as well a great pad but i think there a tad falling apart
-
Also have a look behind your knee bolster if the vertical bolster goes above the bottom segment of the knee roll that is a sure fire way to tell a quality pad as that area is the most vulnerable
-
What makes these legends such a great pad? Lightness, materials, comfort?
-
Protection over weight mate and the materials used are great mate the inner sections are like silk
I had to fight my Inital thoughts to use these but I have got used to them and yes comfort is second to non for me
As a padman I feel the top bat is still slightly wonky there certainly not the best looking pads
-
Bulldogs again for me. Ask Kieron whether he has some of the 2012 spirit softs that were stupid cheap when I bought them
-
Had the spirits a very decent pad maybe a tad on the large size for a small men but agree a very decent pad
-
Really tempted to break the bank for some ajk pads, has anyone used them yet?, are they worth £112 quid?
-
Yash has used them and I'm sure he was very impressed!
But check with him anyway.....yvk3103
-
I'm convinced no pad could ever be worth £112, even at rrp that's far too much for pads
