Title: My new Octane 808
Post by: Milky Bar Kid on July 09, 2013, 04:19:15 PM
After Saturdays game was forfeited by the opposition for the second week running, I was feeling quite down so I decided to take a trip to Morrants on the way to the pub. Anyway there wasn't much in there that took my fancy (the place was quite empty) but then I found this little bad boy hiding at the back of the GMs.

The octane has always been a shape that I fancied the looked of, and the recent exploited of Mr Root have made it just that bit more appealing. With 8 fairly clean grains, it's certainly a looker in my eyes. The size of the thing is what gets me, especially for the weight (labelled 2.9/2.10, would say 2.9). Initially I was a bit dubious with the knock up of an old ball and the mallet but my brother has a knack of picking out good bats and after about an hour with the mallet the rebound is incredible. I'd even go as far as saying its as good as my salix which is something I never thought I would say. Please excuse the pics, iPhone cameras not the best.

Will try and get some up. On a side note those strawberries are well and truly knackered.

Great stuff, I've had a look at the played in GMs around the club, they all make a very similar crisp sound. (Very different from the initial planky sound!) Very consistent bats, as long as it doesn't break, it will play in to be an absolute rocket I'm sure! :)

Nice looking bat. Must say I'm a bit underwhelmed by some GM bats but that one looks the biz.

Nice looking bat for an 808.  Very similar profile to other bats on the market though...

Since joining the forum I've tended to shy away from the bigger brands, mainly because they've been underwhelming compared to the smaller more custom brands. However this bat is a little bit special. It feels lovely in the hands and goes well. It's too early to say how well it will go but the signs are positive. I've always liked gm's and this is my first since a catalyst a few years back.

On a side note, monster ripper out the freezer so it's a little icy is the way to go in weather like this.

I thought is would be worth comparing this bat, which I picked up off eBay the other day to yours

Very quick pics taken in the office and I haven't got a mallet or ball here to really test it yet.

I have to say it is very light for the size, but could have been graded anywhere from a 606-909 in my view...

I am up a mountain in the middle of nowhere on holiday, no batting for me at the moment.

I have used it once in a pre match net and was mightily impressed. It is a real keeper.

Well get back down that mountain and into civilisation. It's nearly time for winter nets y'know!
