Good morning all...
In the past we have been criticised for not asking for nominations for a new moderator. So in the spirit of openness we are asking for nominations for probably two new moderators - one we would like to be in Aus or New Zealand.
Please no self nomination. Self nominations now allowed... (don't all email at once!!)
Those with suggestions please PM me or another of the Admin team.
You have until close of play on Monday to make your nominations
Roll will include -
Looking after the forum
editing wayward posts
creating interesting topics (sometihng for all!!)
Reviewing/approving for sale topics
Reviewing/approving new members
Reviewing/approving possible new sponsors
agreeing with everything I say/think not required.
-
IMO nominations don't work.
The guys that are best for the Job won't get nominated. And 90% of those that do, won't be interested in being mods.
The other 10% will far from mod material.
Let people apply, and pick the best from a group you know wants the job
-
I do agree with Chris. I would love to put my name forward but doubt I will be nominated by anyone just on the basis that I do not know any people outside of this forum or play in the leagues that most of the people on this forum do.
I think it would be better to ask for people to put there names forward and then be asked to answer a number of questions on how you would deal with certain situations etc. These answers could even be made public and a vote done at this points.
Just my opinion.
-
What exactly will a moderator involve doing Sir Buzz?
I'm curious
-
I think if you are going to have moderators you require people that have been here for a good length of time and are active often. Even if they do not post on a continuous basis.
-
Also a good tolerance for drink and a heightened level of responsibility might help!

Never say no to a chilled glass of something, old bean.
-
Except for the requirement of creating new topics (something for all) I think i would be ok to do this. Let me know if I am considered.
Fattuscattus should be the only one assigned with creating new topics from here, only requirement being a healthy dose of drink before any topic is created but strictly no pics allowed from Fattus

From past experience I can confirm that asking for nominations and giving anyone a vote or veto just leads to disaster! Or at least, petty squabbles that drive people away in droves.
-
I personally would be up for putting my name forward, However I am aware it is a nomination process.

Out of interest current mods how much time do you estimate you spend moderating on here a week?
might be useful for people to see if they can fit it in their lives.

tricky one as you can go days without doing any modding and then spend several hours sorting out a major issue (mis-selling, warnings/bans) over a relatively short period of time (2/3 days). However much of that time you are normally on the forum anyway, so it's not dedicated time as such.
-
Ill add moderating can be hard work. Depending on how many the forum has it is daunting the amount of editing one day can need.
-
I think nominations are a good idea but it might be time saving if members who are interested put their hand up to let those nominating know that they are willing and available .
P.S As an Aussie I don't mind putting my hand up
-
this may sound like a bad idea ,
but why don't the forum moderators get together and choose the worthy people

Have spoken with Number4 on a few occasions and always found him to be a decent bloke with good knowledge of the game and equipment. If nominations are still required, consider yourself nominated.
-
PM Buzz then lol. I don't think nominations need to be published on here.
-
Not sure i'll get a nomination but id be happy to do it. I modded on the Kontraband.com forum when i worked there (sadly no longer active) and work as a web developer so could help out on that front and any server issues
-
Procricket gets my vote been on here ages and keeps me entertained

+1 my favourite poster on here.

Add another - gets my vote, as does GarretJ

Definitely my favourite member on this forum along with FattusCattus.id vote for both
-
Dave would ban half the members on here, would be fun though ;)
I would also put him forward. He knows his stuff and a decent bloke in my book
-
I'm afraid that I've possibly been here too short of a time to apply for moderation.
-
How can everyone be recommending Dave, his job involves him disappearing from the forum for long periods of time, plus he can't spell and loves a good argument... Ideal?!
-
I think there was a strong hint of irony/sincerity in there mate
-
Sometimes the most popular forum members dont make the best mods. Not speaking from personal experience obviously! :-)

yeah, we all hate you. AND you suck as a mod.... :D
-
I'm sure I'm missing a few worthy names out but procricket, manormaniac, garretj, tushar sehgal, ryan, roco, fattus, Dan W and nickauger are all worth considering as they've made an effort to invest in the forum and share opinions.
-
Thanks for the kind words mate although I think im in the too argumentative mode too lol. I would be honoured though.
-
I'm starting my own forum and none of you can join ;)
Honestly though, all good names there. It's a big job and I'm sure whoever the powers that be choose, they will do a sterling job. Fresh approach needed I reckon, not that the boys are doing anything wrong, but always good to get a fresh face in to mix it up a bit :)
-
Are you just bitter cos no-one has mentioned you lol? JNC would get my vote ;) In fairness though mate, you have served a rather long hiatus and if you're back from good then you'd be a good addition to the team!
Lets just set up this poll already ;)
-
The only bitter I know mate is the one I spill down myself at 2am on a Saturday before cricket whilst trying to roll a cigarette.
I had a few months off, correct. No real reason, just didn't fancy it and wanted to stop buying stuff I didn't need!
I'm going nowhere pal, the internet monitoring at work is so poor, and I've read most pages on Wikipedia so not much else to do other than get stuck in here
-
Sweet bud, thats good to hear! I like having you around! x
Love in over, before any-one says anything else
-

Some very good names and guys in this lot. They always seem to play an active part in the forum and all have very good and valid points.
I would be interested but in general my computer skills are not great if that matters?
-
Is there a weight limit?
Otherwise I'd be bloody brilliant at it, apart from a reliance on lager and an all too frequent tendency to mention my testicles.
-

How dare you knock my spelling I talk in code I forgot more than most know I have to say thanks for people naming me that's a honour itself I have meet some right good people off this forum some mates for life too
You talk about argument with who my big one was with Brimble which I think I proved myself right
For me d7bow or roco are good shouts as is manoramic

No weight limit, they let me Mod after all. Testicles might count against you though.
-
That's a shame - my testicles are often my only redeeming feature!
-
fattus would defiantly be a top moderator
-
Looking at the stats for the site, don't think you could go too far wrong with either Procricket, Colesy or Liam. All meet the criteria your after, and are decent chaps as well.
Fattus should have his own section where he can talk about cakes and testicles.

(No Swearing Please)!!!!
-
Plums :-)
-
Haha I would apply (Being from Australia) But I dont think you would want a 15 year old being a Mod
-
Never too young - it's the attitude and how level headed you are that counts!
Tom was still in Nursery when he started this forum and I'm sure that he is still only 7 and a half years old, ;) but knows more than most about the cricket industry!
Seriously, age has little to do with it if you have the right attitude!
-
I'd nominate Pedals, but he looks to be keeping his head down :)
-
....and pedalling hard!
He also has a proper job that keeps him locked in a warehouse for long periods of time.
-
What is this proper job you speak of??
-
I've got to know Dave well over the last month or so, think he would make a decent mod - he's very knowledgable and certainly knows his stuff.
Bruce is another who would make a decent mod, a forum legend and been on here since day 1
Both would certainly get my vote
-
Chris good pun shame my season could be ended just awaiting results mate
-

Hear Hear :)
-
Id also love to nominate myself but hahaha, a 13 year old zimbabwean pffffft ;)
-

What you done mate
-
Went over my ankle keeping return ball and I trod on the batsman bat and went down has scan today it immobile at the minute so have to wait and see
-
Hope you pull through mate. Don't want to be wasting a season when your 700 at 40!
-
688 in all cricket at 40 mate been playing local recently Leeds was too far. Sorry for off topic
-
Would have been too happy if you put spike marks on my bat Dave ;)
Hopefully your fine for the rest of the season!

Haha thats true, I would like to say that I know alot about cricket but I dont think I know that much. I am very keen to learn more and more about cricket but I would prefer to play better cricket than know more about cricket than someone else! I know quite a bit about the Australian brands mainly the smaller ones trying to make there way up!
-
As a bit of an update I have been in contact with the forum owner about this today.
Many thanks for all the nominations and volunteers, thanks for all the support
-
Do we have a result coming soon then Buzz?
-
I have just applied with my new found spell checker and i'm currently doing a ECDL course to improve this new age invention
-
you'll need a grammar checker as well :D
-
