At the moment i'm using a Newbery B52 5*. It belongs to a mate that's not playing at the moment. It was labelled up as 2lb 9oz at Romida when he got it and it picks up lovely. I have used it about half a dozen times and it really is a stonking good 'un. My first bat back in't day was a Newbery Merlin 5* and that was also a belter. In between I have used other peoples and they have all been superb, has anyone ever had bad experiences of a Newbery, they all seem good to me.
-
The answer is that I am sure there are a few duff ones knocking about, but the reality is all the ones I have seen are lovely.
Worth the investment in my book.

It makes me wonder how good the players and SPS versions are. On a selfish note i'm hoping my son doesn't get on with his new Aldred, I've had a knock up with it and it is a dream, so want to commandeer it.

have used a couple of mates' 5* Newbs and seem very good bats for the price.
-
Been all good for me in fact it gets rather boring how good they are!!

Newbery are my local batmakers and I don't think I've seen a bad one. They only sticking point was they used to softly press the bats which gave a great performance early on but could lead to them breaking down pretty quickly sometimes within a season. I think these days they are a lot better but I'm sure you'll always find a bad one somewhere, its that nature of willow and bat making. All in all I think they are great but you pay for it mind :)

Have not seen a bad newbery. go for it
-
Best ever bat was a Newbery Mjolnir about 10 years ago. Softly pressed and lasted about 1000 runs before snapping in half. Had a few dead ones though since and has put me off the brand.
Have team mates that swear by them.
-
never had a bad bat pressed by tk so far
-
Never seen a plank. A few which have started off not great but then opened up as the went.
-
My mate had a Mjolnir that didn't go and snapped in 3.
Other than that been impressed by all the Newbery's I've seen, I just wish the tour came in 2lb 7 haha
-
I've got a Newbury GT Players that feels like a cannon going off with a massive middle.
It's wasted in my hands this season :(
-
I can not fault the perfomance but I have seen so many break at my club, I would say about half the team uses them and a lot have either been back for repair or replacement
-
Only ever seen guns from newbery. on a seperate note, Deano I have PM'd you

Top of the range sps and players always had good bats. you do need to look after them thou as they can crack up and split due to the soft pressing..
lower grades I hav'nt found so great.
2nd hand top of the range are great buys on this forum or ebay

Seen a couple of Newberys recently, our captain has one that is a gun! A Newbery is on my list, but a little way down. I'll try one one day!
-
Used our Captain's last season, knicked off second ball. Must've been the bats fault, so they're rubbish.
Seriously though, used a lower grade one a couple of years ago that was a bit flat, all the other ones I've seen or touched have been fantastic. Saying that, even that lower grade one has since opened up and has a nice middle on it. Can't go too far wrong I'd suggest.
-
Newberys are quite consistent, I've seen a decent amount of them and they've all left good impressions with me. Mjolnirs are really underrated bats, the profile is perfect. Haven't used a C6 before so can't comment on them although you'd be hard pressed to find them new now.
The lower range (5 Star) is bit hit and miss though - they offer good value, but it'd be better to buy it in person or get it through somewhere like IJC, Vitas or Uzi Sports who handpick theirs. Some of the 5 Stars are absolute belters (had an immense Uzi years ago), others less so. They won't win any prizes on looks but they're good bats for the price!
-
I bought a Thruxton 5-Star from IJC and it is one of my better bats. Certainly as good as some other more expensive bats. I guess if you want a 5-Star, go pick/tap them up yourself or go with someone like IJC who hand picks their bats.
-
only ever seen one bad one, and that was a Mjolnir that just would not open up despite looking for all the world like it ought to be lovely. Other than that, have only had gems from them.
-
I had a great one when I played in the UK, but as soon as I brought it back to Aus & played with it here, it felt like a plank. Cant remember what model it was, just thought it was strange that it played so well over there but felt like a plank here.
-
I have found that with them being soft pressed you need to knock them in gently for the 1st few hours. Gradually increase the force you knock them in by, and this for me has resulted in bats that go "really" well :)
-
Had a sps players Uzi - worst bat I've used did not ping one bit sold it ASAP !

Being from Sussex, a few years back all anyone ever used in our leagues were Newbery. I had a nevarone which lasted years and was still going strong when I sold it. Now I see far less Newberys then I used to.
It's interesting that people have commented on them breaking due to them being soft pressed because recently I've had a few pass through my hands which have been really hard pressed. No doubt those will play well when they open up but I get the feeling Newbery may have over compensated on some...
Recently not bought any purely for this reason.
