I have just purchased a new pair of Gray Nicolls Legend batting pads for the princely sum of £85 as my old pads have broken at the buckle. Imagine my horror when I put on my beautiful shiny new pads and realise that they squeak horrendously against my shoes (which are Adidas Twenty2 yrds, new this season too). Its driving me and the opposition bowlers crazy. Do you guys have any tips on how to get rid of said squeak?

use them more.
Mine used to do that, but I haven't noticed them recently, maybe its just wearing them in.
Sorry not much help.

Have loads of nets and walk around in them for ages. The squeak will go once you've worn them enough. One fifty was enough for them to stop squeaking for me! :-[

Rub some Vaseline over the instep of the pads?

This is what I was thinking. I've not scored a fifty in them yet but scored two forties and a twenty, so been wearing them for a couple of hours and they are just as squeaky. I might have to resort to the drastic measure of the vaseline!

Had the same problem, with the same pads. Took a whole season to get rid of the squeak.

If vaseline doesn't work , stick some medical tape on.

Was about 6 or 7 long net sessions before my Legends stopped squeaking.

Oh (No Swearing Please)...

Buy pads with a mesh instep, they don't squeak and rumour has It they are better lasting....

Agree same from my experience.

If they are driving the bowlers crazy let them be :)

A little medical tape works a treat !

This is a bonus, however when I'm facing it's only putting me and the wicket keeper off!

My suggestion would be 'stick on felt'. Very cheap from craft shops and can get whatever colour you fancy.
My SS Test Openers have mesh instep and I do find it surprising that the likes of GN don't have this on their top pads.

my MH T2s still squeak after a half season of use!

I imagine that they don't use mesh because its not as durable as PU or leather.

Rumour has it, mesh is better lasting

My old mesh pads (GM original) lasted a season before ripping on the instep, whereas my newest leather pads (GM original le) have lasted since the start of last season, and are still going strong with little sign of wear and tear
My mate got some GMs with mesh in 2009 and they are still in mint condition lol, strange hey?

i don't think timing a set off pads over a calendar is very useful.
different batsmen, different styles and different length of time in the middle will all conribute
