Title: Spartan Bat Models
Post by: tajy86 on July 25, 2013, 11:10:22 AM
Hi Guys, since the new Spartan range hasn't released in Australia yet I was wondering if anyone in the UK has been able to go and have a look at some of the Spartan bats. Is there any difference in the SVR, MP and MC ranges? Thanks

Buying bats based on endorsed players and stickers isn't wise

Most pros are sponsored to use STICKERS not necessarily the bats

To answer your question

No they are all £100 Indian bats being sold at a lot more but with different coloured stickers

Buy a PR or SS at half the price if you want an Indian bat

Have seen the MC and CG ranges personally, did nto get a look at the MP range.
They just vary in grades basically.
@Garrett- do you know where to get PR bats from ?

Hi

I saw the MC and the MP range of bats at my local stockist and with the eye, I could see no difference between the bat shapes. Yes, they are expensive but the ones Ihave seen in matches have gone well.

Dunno, some folk just like to use gear that their heroes use, if they like the bat, they will look after it carefully and also gives a psychological boost to their batting, as they are using a bat that their favourite batsman is using. If you were to take the stickers off, I'm sure people couldn't tell the difference between a £150 plain bat and the Spartan, but stickers do inspire confidence of some sort. Of course, you could just buy the stickers etc, but we are all against fake stickers. ;)

From a glance, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the MP, SVR and MC ranges, but the CG profile does have a lower swell compared to the other three.

I played against somebody who had a MC 1000; he scored a half-tonne and it made a satisfying sound. To be honest it didn't go any better or worse than any of the other brands on offer (Kook, GN, GM etc) but it certainly held it's own and appeared to have a substantial middle.

I own a Spartan it's last years CG model from oz and I haven't made the runs with it I want to but when I net and play it sounds above the other bats being used and I didn't mind paying the extra to be different as I think it was one if the first proper ones to be in the uk and its a stunner

I wonder if his wicket keeping gear has changed to as that has not been up to his usual standard this summer.  :(

I spoke to the sales manager for SS in Australia last week. SS are making Spartan and also the Australian market Puma's.

Matt Prior is one of my favorite players. He can do no wrong for me because when you need someone when your back is to the wall then Matt would be one of my 1st picks. I was asking as I have found that a lot of cricketers and golfers when changing their equipment tend to suffer with form for a while :(

So " in my opinion" they are nothing special. MC etc have probably done it for the money. No shock there then  :D

I haven't used one so couldn't really say if they are special or not. Having the bats come out of the SS factory though doesn't necessarily make them SS. I can't comment about the spartan bats as i don't know the arrangement within the factory re the manufacturing of them. But the SS guy did tell me that the Puma bats were made in a completely separate part of the factory. There is no overlap between the Puma and SS bats even though they both come from the same factory. So it is possible that the different brands are producing vastly different products even though they share the same factory.

Mass produced Indian bats and the only thing these bats have in common with Clarke and Priors bats are the stickers. Better off supporting a bat maker on here and lets not all be a tragic victim of marketing!!

Some of the "mass produced" Indian bats I own perform better than than some of my UK made bats.

Went to my local sports shop looking for some new shoes for gym and saw there was a few discount bins at the front with cricket gear and had a look to find all kid gear. One of the girls told me the mens cricket stuff was on sale aswell and went over to see that spartan and kookaburra were 40% off cause they were last years models. Only grip i have with the bat is the stickers on the back are peeling i have heard the stickers ain't the best of quality but i can now see that for myself.

Picked up a Spartan Fighter bat Picked up fairly well and for only $120 Aud i think thats around 65 pounds i could be wrong tho. Gave it a oil and a knock in and took it down to the nets and my oh my the balls were flying off the bat very nice bat to play with. I must not of knocked it in fully had seam marks on the bat and From digging out a yorker a little crack nothing major. Here are some pics after the knocking in and oiling.
