Title: My new python cricket bat
Post by: toenails97 on July 26, 2013, 09:29:35 PM
Alright Lads,
As I posted in the what you wanted for 2014 thread, some of you may of read that I quite fancied a new bat from a very fresh company called "Python". I have been stalking their Facebook and Twitter page for quite a while, scouring at the pictures of the lovely clefts the company had picked up and would be getting made into bats. I instantly fell in love with one of the clefts; which led me to instantly message python and ask for further details on the bat which in the end I knew I would purchase ;)!
I requested my weight and I keenly sent over a payment of £190 to secure the lovely cleft which I was assured would make a beautiful bat. The fella at Python was very very helpful and answered whatever question I had about the bat - which I am led to believe can be quite annoying due to me being like a child at Christmas :D > however he put up with me very well!!!
The £190 payment was an introductory offer with me being one of the very first people to purchase a Python cricket bat..... And I can tell you if the bat is anywhere as good as the service I will be very happy; and I can assure you it won't be my last purchase from the fresh new brand. The weight I went with was 2'8/2'9 with very little concaving as I quite fancied a bat in a similar shape to my Gray Nicolls Nitro - which was a very powerful bat!  I have been kept up to date through out the process with pictures and every detail about my bat, I'm sure many of you will know thy is very rewarding especially when it's your first time using the company! Overall I'm very impressed with the way Python Cricket went about things and I'm very positive about the bat I am anticipating in the post. Ill post some pics I got sent and ill also update the thread when the bat arrives with an in depth review
Cheers
Tony

I love how excited I can get just looking at some clefts. Any none cricket kit geeks just don't get it.

Looks a good stick tho. I've been following on twitter also and they seem decent. Interesting to know how it goes when you get it.

Looks a top stick Tony, the profile reminds me of the ST shape, thick edges with a low and extended middle with a little concaving. Hope it goes well for you! :)

No problem toenails. I didn't want to let you know it was me as I wanted you to get the same level of service that I would give every other customer. I'm glad you are happy with the buying process and the bat. It should be with you very soon. Post on here an honest review.

I will be applying for forum sponsorship but in the mean time, if the forum allows it, I will answer questions in this thread.

First one .... I have signed a confidentiality agreement with the batmaker so can't divulge that information. All I can say is I got the services as a result of a very very good longstanding friend, who plays county cricket, pulling a few strings.

Its uk pressed and made to answer that question.

Well GarrettJ I'm very impressed with how you went about things and kept me up to date with every fine detail about the bat....thank you for that! Yeah I'll post a honest review of what I think of the bat hopefully it's as nice as it looks, how did you find it performed of the mallet?

That's fair enough Garrett!

I have to admit tony, you're a braver man than I to send £200 quid to some guy on facebook after receiving a few pictures and some emails.

That would be riskier than I was willing to take on.

Toenails initially contacted me on the Facebook

Soon there will be a fully operational website that takes payments and if anyone has questions ill give them my phone number and address.

We are in the process of creating every aspect of this operation properly and it will be sorted by 1 September.

It's a risk I wouldn't have taken personally but sometimes a risk pays off and it seems to have on this occasion. Good luck with the bat and good luck with your company GarrettJ

Nice grains on this bat Toenails

And if you wanted him to have the same customer service then why not let him know its you by the time you post this instead of blowing smoke up your own wooooo hooooo?

I think he is basing his comment on the looks of the willow and the information I gave him regarding the bat ..... similar to how people make one off comments based on photos of forum sponsors bats without nothing but a picture???

Ok, he has a bat for £190 POSTED .... its cheaper than any of these which are all very good bats from forum sponsors and in my opinion only that Laver is better ... but its 3 times the price:

I'm responding to a couple of comments which needed answering regarding why someone thinks the bat is quality. I openly said the other forum brands I pictured are very good bats.

Ill let others discuss and leave this thread alone unless I feel something needs clarifying. Is that fair?

Well fellas, a special package came for me and I had an inscentive it was my new bat. I am very impressed with the way the bat was packaged with a lot of foam padding in the box to make sure the bat didn't get dented or knocked on the way - which done its job very sufficiently :D
The bat weighs 2'9 and is absolutely huge, it has 35mm+ edges and has next to no concaving so it's is literally a very large lump of wood, surprisingly the pick up is very good with 1 grip as I'm quite surprised as it feels nicer than my Salix; which does not compare at all in size! The face has 15 immaculately straight grains and is a very nice piece of wood and has been labelled as a pro grade as to grade one due to not having any heartwood with beautiful straight grains. Now on to performance, well what can I say I'm over the moon! It's pressed very well and pings aswell as my Salix and that is at it's peak so I can't imagine what this is going to be like :D!!!!
The stickers are very nice and have a carbon fibre esq look to them, with a mirrored shiny chrome outline to add for affect. Overall I'm really pleased to be the very first owner of a Python cricket bat and I can't wait to get it knocked in and used, although I will be adding an anti scuff to prolong the life of the bat. This certainly won't be my last python and its fair to say ill be on the look out for any new shapes etc!
Thanks a lot John you were a pleasure to deal with!
Pics to follow

I'd be very tempted to give it a very thin coat of oil/wax, just to give the grains a little more definition. Just a kitchen roll, pour a small amount of oil on it and just rub the face and edges with it, almost like you're cleaning the bat, then wait about 2 days before putting a scuff on. Of course, if you're not a fan of oil or wax, then ignore the above. :D

It does look big for its weight, I'm pretty sure it will play better than the Salix if you find it pretty much the same in terms of responsiveness at the moment. :)

Toenails,

Glad it finally arrived, I was getting worried about the package. Really happy you like it.

In terms of oiling, the bat hasn't been oiled so would recommend oiling it and knocking it in for the rest of the season and bringing it out in winter nets ready to go.

As I didn't have the adult range stickers at the time and just the junior ones I'll send you a set. Choice of black or Cadbury purple.

I have emailed you to discuss.
