A gun......
Finally started using my new willostix spitfire original ( expertly recommended by Paul) over the weekend and boy is this thing a gun.
Delighted with it. Clipped one straight back over the bowlers head for 6. Barely hit it
How are other new bats going?

My Woodstock is going well for other people and I'm sure I'd get on with it better if I gave it a chance. It's a gun of a bat but the middle is too low for me
My GM Purist (new to me and stickered as a Neon) is being used as a net bat/wet weather bat and is going like a tramp on chips when I find the middle.
My Chase 175 Beluga I had a weight reduction on at the start of the season is a beauty of a bat, the ball just flies!
As I am/was injured (find out if I can play again on Thursday) I haven't got to use my Octane yet, but tapping a ball up with it is very satisfying, seems to ping very well.

I sent Adam an email when I ordered a pair of gloves and he sold me the stickers as well.

They might be a bit much for some but I love the branding (sorry for poor picture, will get one of the whole bat tomorrow if you'd like me to)

Can't remember exactly but off the top of my head they were less than a tenner.
The gloves are awesome for the price too :)

My first post, thought I'd join after reading CBF for a couple of months.

Ive had a few this year.
Bought an old salix pod one off a mate that is my match bat. had it refurbed by SAF as all my other stuff is SAF
Bought a SAF mechten but just couldnt get on with it and needed money.
And just now ive bought all salix kit, got last years pads and gloves off Asad at Uzi (i prefer the black and white to this years) and i bought the Praestania players off 'token' that was in the for sale thread and i think thatll arrive today!

Got a kook menace with the best grains ive ever seen on a bat but just couldnt time the ball with it and gave up on it after 3 low scores so went back to my h4l and stuck with it all season. Shame really because im sure the menace has a great middle but i cant find it.

Okay, so here is my review of the Willostix Spitfire original, I had my first net with it yesterday evening. Due to the rain we had a couple of days ago (and it didn't half belt it down) it was played with on a slightly green netting track so the ball wasn't getting up as much as it would on a match day. So the higher middle wasn't met as much as I'd have liked. But once we set the bowling machine up after facing a few overs of spin it became easier.
The Good -
I'll start by saying the customer service I received, as most others on this forum, from Paul was second to none. Nothing was too much for him (especially as I 'to and fro-ed' between the Newbury and the Willostix). He sent me numerous pictures of both bats, next to each other and then on their own. The pickup is very good but I guess you'd expect that with a 2'8 bat really. When you meet the middle it did fly, but the sound wasn't 'normal'. I can't really describe it but you'll know what I mean! With the recent wet weather the outfield hadn't had a proper cut in about 4/5 days and the ball skipped along at a fair old pace from a couple out of the meat! I can only assume (and hope) that in time it'll get better and sound better as the sound didn't fill me with confidence, again I can't explain it but I hope you know what I mean.
The not so good -
Although the bat arrived knocked in and prepared to play it was clear it wasn't. The toe sounded very very "tinny" indeed. I've noticed on other threads that Willostix's toe's are notoriously weak and staff at Willostix had set out to fix this so I'll spend a couple of hours with a mallet low down on the bat to be sure. Paul mentioned in an email that the grains were starting to open up after he knocked it in (Which isn't such a bad thing) but I'm wary of them and wondering about fitting something to protect the face & edges. He also mentioned in the email along with pictures that there were a few blemishes on the face, and they kind of ruin what is normally a great looking piece of willow. He assured me there was no difference in feel when he used the mallet on the blemished part. The grip that the bat came with has a lot of grip but has already started to ride up and string is visible after one net! I was thinking about adding a second grip anyway and I may as well now! Using stronger tape. I have to say that another player used my bat in the net who I blame for the grip riding up so I think I'll be the only player to use it from now on.
Overall -
Good looking bat that's been let down by the blemishes. I'll spend an extra 4/5 hours knocking the bat in paying a lot of attention to the "tinny" toe and trying to get that middle sounding like a good 'ping'. A second grip and possible protection for the face and edges is now priority! Value for money? At £232.49 including £12.50 for the knocking in, I'd probably say not. For the bat I received at that price I'm wondering now if I should've got the Newbury! That's my honest opinion after just one net though. I'm hoping (and praying!) with time the toe sounds a lot less tinny, the middle sounds better and the grains don't crack and tear too early.
I'll be uploading pictures later when I get in from work :)

You're not meant to hit the ball off the toe! ;) I get what you mean though, you'd rather have a toe that goes. They're made by a good batmaker, so it should play in nicely indeed. What Newbery were you thinking of out of interest?

I'm well aware of where you have to hit the ball, there are lovely plane stickers on both edges telling me where :D I was looking at the Newbery GT SPS which looked a beaut from the pictures Paul sent.

A Newbery TT 5* that I'm taking to Globe Sports tonight for a workout. Love the pickup and balance, although looks a bit weird with the dropped shoulders at the moment.

Nice review Wazim. I, too have a Spitfire Original purchased from IJC. It's a pretty decent stick and it will take a little while to open up to it's full potential. When Paul says the "grains open up", don't worry it doesn't mean it's going to split in half! We say that a bat will "open up" to mean that it's fully played in to delivery its best performance.
Also I believe the Spitfire series is made by a different batmaker to the rest of the Willostix bats. So any talk of weak toes from other Willoxstix bats should not carry over to the Spitfire.

A salix Torque grade 1 off the forum, great pick up and nice punch.
Still opening up and getting better as i use it so will have more to say once 2-3 months have been done.

The spitfire from willostix is made by a different bat maker so it should be a gem I looked at the bat in Paul shop it picked up very well but I went for the hammer fyrre in the end as just felt a bit more responsive off the mallet .but knowing the spitfire was made in Kent gives you some clues who made it ;)

I promise I'll get round to putting the pictures up! I had to be at junior nets last night until 9pm and really couldn't be bothered doing anything after I'd eaten and got settled! Tonight is the night!
I wonder if it was the same Spitfire you picked up that I've bought?

I think it was as was stuck between the two and wanted a light bat and he only has one which was 2.8 I liked the bat but just the hammer fyrre just seemed to be very responsive off the mallet I felt the spitfire would take a bit more knocking in but one thing for sure it's made my one off the best bat makers around enjoy
