Title: How to refurbish?
Post by: Chmaiden on August 04, 2013, 07:51:14 AM
Hey all - looking at the collection of bats that have built up over te past 20 years and thinking of giving them a bit of a clean

What's the best way to refurbish that people have found? Am gonna include the ones I've even using in the past few years as well so what are people's thoughts? Just a bit I sandpaper? How do I get the fibres off from cover and edge tape? Etc etc

use a hairdryer to get the tape of then sandpaper or nail polish remover helps get the residue off

I've been told that after removing the extratec, leave the bat overnight and the glue sets and is then easy to sand off...

I think everyone here would like to see these 20 years worth of bats BEFORE they are refurbed because there are a few on here who like to collect these old gems

I agree.

also use the search function as there are a few really good "how to do a refurb" threads.

I hope you have a good sander as 20 bats is a load of refurbishing!

Cheers guys - 10 bats here and I think I left a few at my mums in the uk so try wont be touched (thinking about it it's about 25 years!)

Nothing very exciting  in there - 3 hunts county reflex, v600, couple of as sports, a larsons, an ihsan, a malik, and a boom boom. The larsons has a fab middle and the as sports is a massive bat. The malik is a monster - 3 lb plus. The county bats were from mid/late 80s through 90s. The ihsan is the result of an experiment - I fancied a long handle!

So once I've got rid of the glue and tape it's just a case of a good sanding (what grade paper?) and oiling?

Will do a search on the forum

would use a mixture of grades if I'm honest, working from the medium/coarse grade right up to fine depending on how good you want the finish to be.  Just a personal preference of mine but I use bat wax instead of oil as I find it gives a smoother finish.
