Hi all,
I just come back from Pakistan and brought myself a nice thick custom made english willow bat.
I brought some linseed oil from here and facing sheet to protect the bat.
Just wanted to know, it doesnt seem like its been waxed or polished, meaning the final phase looks like it was handsanded.
Do you think i just oil it and knock it in, with out putting any wax on?
-
Salix Bat wax is your best bet, has the oil and wax combined
-
the wax finish is normally only done for show - it makes the bat look good in the shops. I wouldnt worry about it if i was you, get the bat oiled and knocked in - far more important to have a bat that performs well than a bat that looks good as it gets smashed into a hundred tiny fibrous pieces!!
-
If your really keen on making it look nice, send the bat to me and I will give the bat a proper finish!
-
i dont really want it 2 look nice, just want it to perform lol. Im going just add some stickers on it tbh.
I was just curious thats all, i think oiling it will be fine..

Ok, thats fine, I was just offering a service. You can try using the salix bat wax, give it a light coat of that and then buff the bat around 5 hours after applying. Thats what a few friends do. I have never tried this but apparently it works.
-
Craig, do you have a buffing wheel and mop heads?
-
They should be with me by the end of the week mike. Why do you ask?
-
Because you cannot wax without one. What wax compound will you use?
-
Regarding the Salix bat wax, what is the process for applying this, as I see you have mentioned a buffing wheel, but on the official Salix website it doesn't mention this. Also, can you just apply it to the playing face or should you remove all stickers before hand and do the whole bat? Cheers
-
Just apply to the parts that you would normally oil.
-
Get a small amount and work it into the face and edges of the bat - leave it for a couple of hours - rub it off, but you get a better finish if you have a buffing facility. You do not need to take off stickers.

Does it work for the toe of the bat?
