I normally bowl off spin, I reckon the North V South would be a cracking game

Post by: King pair on August 17, 2013, 08:13:27 AM
Any thoughts on how far north we want this to be played? We could ever get a north side together then play a side like stone cc. By that I mean just play a club as what is effectively a touring side
Title: Re: CBF North v South Game
Post by: 19reading87 on August 17, 2013, 09:03:48 AM
I'm sorry but from what I've seen and know the south would demolish the north

What's the cut off point for the north/south divide?

North of Birmingham is north for me although that may reduce the southern catchment area!

Its an interesting one. Played  with more forum members than most people and I reckon the north might edge it. Simmy, liam, ryan, wilkie,  roco are good players but buzz, dean, chris, pistol, procricketer are their equals.would come down to who would be least affected by dropouts.  I lost pretty much a whole team in the process of getting 11 just...
Title: Re: CBF North v South Game
Post by: GarrettJ on August 17, 2013, 09:23:47 AM
North for me is to draw a line across the country at day Leicester and anything either side is the cut off. Ideally the game would be weekend and pre season and close to the point point to make travelling easier

Bristol, so def classified as south and you northerners wouldn't want me anyway ;)

Ashorne just south of Leamington/warwick is our ground and very central for most of the uk. Available in september on most Saturdays.

We would happily host a game as long as it doesn't clash with our league games.

We are about 2 miles from the train station, just a short bus ride from the city centre or a 20-30 minute walk.

We are also near the Outer ring road so easy for those who are driving.

Will be checking out the pitch/bar shortly on tour ;)

Think a midlands based ground is more feasible for most as a 5 hour drive is going to inhibit some people where as 2.5 for everyone is a bit more realistic

And needs to be fairly easy to get to by train, so bearish the the mainlines if possible.

I think that's where Ashorne or any other midlands club is handy. I regularly drive to Leeds and it's 2.5 hours, but so is Kent and most of the West Country.

I would suggest you find two captains and start building two sides on this thread. Knowing league cricket up and down the country I suspect the 14th September might be the first available Saturday after the league season has finished for everyone.

I'm on the notts / south yorks border so that makes me a northerner - bowl a bit of military medium so no problem to churn some overs out.

York leagues are still playing on 14th, but I will see if our pitch is free on the 15th so if you cannot find a better time or place then at least you may have one option.

I'll donate £50 to the winners charity of choice if you can get a game organised... I'd say my money is safe seeing as Nick couldn't even get 11 players for a game let alone 22

the only way this would work would be as a pre season game next summer somewhere near a motorway, probably around oxford.

the reality is that we have had 2 games so far as a forum (played 2 won 2). but even with ringers we are yet to field a full team.

Not sure I'd be good enough to be selected and would need plenty of notice to arrange travel over....

Our pitch is free on the 15th, but I just cannot see how someone can organise a game pulling on so many people from so many different places in such a tight turnaround of 2-4 weeks.

I would like to see me proved wrong, but I fear this is not going to happen this season.

Anyway, to whoever is organising, if you cannot fond a more suitable location/venue. Drop me a PM.

Also, depending on location, I would be interested in playing,  but don't mind either way.

Can't believe no-ones mentioned me!!! I've been based just South of Malaga.

By the way, this will only work if you base it in the midlands (Nicky Saunders could help with a club possibly) plus 2 x nominated captains working from a squad of 16 players each - both previous games have resulted in only 9 people turning up.

By the way, the genuine quality Southerners I have come up against include: Buzz, Tomtek, Soulman, Vulcan, Hell 4 Leather, Canners. Silly-Shilly and myself.

That should be enough to thrash you working class Gravy -Guzzlers!

Guys, look at some of the previous comments - it's not availability and willingness to captain that is needed. It's someone to organise it - and that's a tough job that no-one seems to have put their hands up to.

People drop out and mess you about at the last minute, it's not like captaining a club match!

Guess from the posts and finish of leagues etc it sounds as though the only weekend for a ground / forum member availability is either the 28th or 29th sept (with some clubs still playing the 21st & 22nd) is that to late with the weather turning and a more suitable date pre-season / early season and a return game the end of next season?

I'm right up in the North east which I imagine will be to far for southerners to travel to. Does anyone in the midlands know any nice grounds? Also someone said they would offer their ground in york as a venue, how many people would travel to York just out of interest
Title: Re: CBF North v South Game

Hi

It was me, I am sure the pitch will still be available, depending on dates.

Saturdays are out, as are some Sundays and Wednesdays but generally the other days would be available with notice.

Weekday or Sunday?
Time start?
Number of overs/timed game?
and Would York be a suitable venue?

Like FattouschCattousch says, if we can get someone to organise it, it would be easier.
Title: Re: CBF North v South Game
Post by: tim2000s on July 09, 2014, 12:23:44 PM
Bit of advice, based on experiences of organising forum stuff. You need a captain for each side. They need to be responsible for managing each sides participation. You also need a ground. Bear in mind that weekends have league cricket, which may get in your way.

Calculate what it is going to cost you before you even start so that everyone who says yes knows what they are committing to, and make sure that you have an escape clause with any ground. There can and will be drop outs...
Title: Re: CBF North v South Game

Surely in situations like this a game in the midlands would be much easier with it being, obviously, in the middle of the country.

It is probably to late this season but if you get something on paper then next May/June on a Thursday could be a good bet

I'm really southern and would struggle to get to the games arranged down South, flying up north may be the answer! Haha

I'll throw my hat in the ring to skipper the southern team. Maybe a midlands weekday venue for next season and  home and away fixture for 2016. Any southerners  interested?
Any sponsors willing to throw some attire in?

Lots of offers to play and skipper.......................

can't see any offers from anyone to actually organise it, which is once again the key problem to this ever taking place.

Our ground, Ashorne, is pretty central. Just south of Birmingham and probably less than 3 hours drive from most places in England.
