Title: New Bat Required - Up to £200 - Any offers appreciated
Post by: arsenal123 on August 19, 2013, 10:00:32 PM
Obviously directed at forum sponsors, retail shops and bat makers  :-[

I have a young lad at my club with a £200 budget for a new bat, no more.  He's a driver of the ball, so lowish middle in the 2'9" to 2'10" range.  He's looking at a non-mainstream brand, in his words: "I want to move away from Kookaburra/GN/GM".

He is currently looking at Bradbury's and Salix's online.  I told him to give me two days and I would put it to the forum to see if there's anything about.

Thanks in advance!

I was just about to say, Python cricket is a good shout, they have plenty of quality willow from what I've seen on their FB page. :)

I don't think it would be too difficult to pick up a pinger from one of the 20+ forum sponsors... They are just a PM or email away

I can never quite understand the point of these threads. There are so many options available already and in addition there is always a few people who can custom make a bat for you. So you really need to figure out what you are after or at the very least browse the site and sponsor links to see what is available.

You have a very healthy budget, do some research and I am sure you will find a great bat.

Imagine if everyone buying a bat starts a thread asking "what's available", the whole forum will be littered with duplicated pictures/posts etc.

Most big stores will have far too many bats to list in every thread.

Maybe the problem is there are so many options he's looking for a place to start- It's a pretty bewildering amount of bats available in that price range.

That's true James. I am thinking if I had a shop, I will have at least 10 -20 bats for him to choose from. I couldn't realistically market each bat on separate threads. Hence I would have my own web site or store for OP to browse and short list.

OP needs to research in to what kind of bat would suit the youngster, at least it will narrow down the choice.

What about woodstock

Bats perform well, the stickers came off mine and there was a gap at the back of the splice.
Customer service wasn't the best I've received either but I'm a bit picky about things like that.

What about forum sponsors? Why are other companies who don't support this community suggested first/more? I have some great relationships with RK, Red Ink Cricket, Uzi Sports, Paul @ IJC, Aswani, Laver & Wood, i've recently got to know Matt @ H4L a bit after a long chat at the CBF v H4L game.

Any one of us, or indeed the other sponsors on the forum that i don't know so well could make/provide a fantastic bat for the budget.

Sorry for the rant, all i hear on and off the forum are lukewarm comments at best about Woodstock but i constantly see them suggested.

Mind. Boggled.

As ive already posted on here (Post-My new Weapon) I got a bat from a company called Vanquish. I paid £110.00 for it in their sale. The bats an absolute beauty but have a look for yourself on my post mate.

Ive also seen a few bats that Aldred and Kippax have been making ad they look lovely so maybe try them?

Hope this helps.

I ordered my Woodstock before I joined the forum, if only I'd waited!

I have a few belters here at home with me that are brand new and up for sale. Two G2 and two G1 all go extremely well.

Can weigh for exact weight again but they all weigh between 2lb9 and 2lb11

Price is normally 220 but we do deals to forum members all the time :) these I can do for 180+ postage all already oiled and had a few hours knocking in. Will require some work around the edges and toe area of course before use.

Let me know if you want any pics and details etc. Profiles are bombora and new wave all have mid-low profiles.

Liam

Don't get why though as they're just shaped and finished TK bats? So can't be that bad?

Exactly. I am not so keen on the pricing for softs but with bats there's some excellent choices here.

All you have to do is talk to most sponsors, if price is ever an issue you need talk to us directly and we will always try to work around problems. Also people need to realise that what is offered here is always of the highest quality  If you want the best, you're in the right place, but you can't expect to pay pennies for premium gear :)

Customer service wasn't as good as I could get from a forum sponsor
Price wasn't as good as from a forum sponsor
After sales is non existent - the complete opposite to a forum sponsor
John claims he hand makes the bats, he doesn't, the forum sponsors are 100% honest about where their bats come from

Performance wise I can't knock it, but buying from a forum sponsor would have been a much nicer experience. Maybe I expect too much from companies, but we are spoilt with forum sponsors who go above and beyond what I want when spending my money on their products and services.

Fair enough, thought you were talking about the bat itself

Palmist.  I don't really understand the problem, I read a lot of threads on here and post occasionally.  I have seen others ask before and IJC and Vitas have posted up pictures of their favourite stock they have in at the moment.  A better indication of stock than just saying "I have this bat for this much..."

In addition you look for the personal aspect.  People recommend their own favourite kit and give views on kit to be wary of (eg. I recommend M+H wk gloves over all others!).  Is this not a forum dedicated to people with an interest in bats and cricket gear?

Thus far I have forwarded on all suggestions of bats to my mate who is currently undecided as he didn't realise there was such good quality gear outside of the big brands.  I have potentially brought a new customer to the forum sponsors who fund this forum.

Its a bit pathetic that I ask a forum for help/suggestions and get lambasted for it.  I have stuck by the rules and not just asked by PM's.

Thanks to all those who have put in offers thus far, I hope to bring you some business soon!  :-[

Apologies if you felt that way mate, I was not having a go at you [your username is another story  ;)]. My whole point was that there is far more choice here than can be shown in one thread. This goes for others as well. So please don't be upset and carry on with the good work.

Where are the bats made then?

A lad at my club has just purchased one and it looks like a decent stick. A bit pricey for what it is but he got discount with pads and gloves.
