Title: Hunts county reflex
Post by: tommo256 on August 20, 2013, 09:02:52 AM
Morning fellas,

Was over my cousins yesterday who live in huntingdon and I thought I would just poke my head in to have a ganders, and surprise surprise I ended up leaving with some new willow :)

I managed to get a hunts reflex, don't know what it weighs as I just done it on pick up and feel. got 9 grains with a dash of heartwood.
The blokes over there are top blokes and happy to help with anything, I got to see the bat making workshop and the back room where there are just bats after bat after bat.

Cheers guys
Lee x

They're not the original stickers...have a look at these... One on the right was from about 1990 one on left is about 1992!!!(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/20/y7u2ebym.jpg) 😉

I love those old school reflex stickers - shame they have abandoned the famous toe shape too... I might need to speak to county about making me another old style reflex!!!

It would be awesome to get a modern version of this - with thicker edges on a flat face with a slight bow in the face - but the awesome toe - possible with a little concaving at the top to allow for a really big swell in the middle... mmm

Ahhhh I used to have one of those.

the toe shape is the same as the old V12 too.

now that was a bat.

get the edges off the magnum and the unconcaved spine of the reflex and you have some bat!

I was always a fan of the Insignia LE from this era. Had a huge spine for the time. I'd love to see Hunts with a bigger market share and re-release these stickers on some bats. I'd get one!

What weight's that Insignia Tim?

And also - does anyone reckon Tony could still make that shape?

If he can't, then Martin Berrill could.

He's based in Gloucester - at one time 9 out of 11 players in the local leagues would be using Hunts bats sourced/made by him.

He can be a bit grumpy, but if you buy a Hunts from him....

That one is 2lb 12oz.

Tony can definitely make that shape, as he has for me in the past...

That was a Grade 2 willow bat about 4 years ago, and cost £115 plus P&P.....!

MArtin Berrill made mine back in the early 90s! bought 3 off him.  wasnt the thing with the reflex that it had a hole drilled through the middle to get a bigger bat for the same weight???  Or am i just imaginging that?  I've never had the nerve to cut one in 2...millichamp style!

That's exactly how it was supposed to work. The HC Turbo did the same thing, and the stickers on that featured a drill bit.

Yes it had a hole drilled from the splice downwards. VK Sports in Ealing used to a sectioned Reflex on display so you could see the hole.

I think the drilling of the hole came from baseball bats ?

That's my understanding too. HCB are based in Huntingdon and there used to be a huge American Air Force base near there. The baseball players from there came to HCB to have their baseball bats modified and ideas for cricket bats developed.

I thought so. It was not only to reduce the weight but also for performance purposes. I think it has now been made illegal in baseball bats for that reason ?

I believe that corking was made illegal, but there is basically no evidence that it actually affects performance.

Yes corking or just leaving the hole is illegal in baseball.

Good piece on it here where they did measure some enhance performance.
