Have you seen what Luke Wright is doing to the Banglasdeshis?
He's mashing them around with 61* off 26 balls.
I like this approach very much.
-
Haha, does he hit as big a ball as your good self FC?. On another note, never understood the purpose behind these England Lions games. Always thought it was for emerging younger cricketers, not those in their 30's.
-
If basically Hampshire 2nd XI beat them , this will be an interesting game ;).
-
Some of the counties must be well pleased about call-ups for this game. Hampshire, in particular. They will be without Carberry, Vince and Briggs for their game at Old Trafford tonight.

Especially annoying when a win tonight guarantees us a QF place :(.
-
ballance, plunkett and lees missing for yorkshire big game against notts, brilliant, cheers, absolutely pointless, they'd get more out of a game against a tough notts side in a meaningful game, as opposed to smashing some poor bangladesh's allover
-
Balance and wright both have tons in a 200plus partnership.
-
Ballance has to be involved in the ODI's now. Looks a top player taking his chance.
-
Butler must have massive pad rash. thanks for coming lol
-
Can't they quickly send Vince and Carberry up to OT now and stick in two sub fielders of some sort >:(.
-
Ballance 2 tons in the last 2 lions games, surely a proper england call-up beckons
-
Ballance is twice the player Bairstow is and has twice the FC hundreds in less innings, how he hasn't kicked him out the test team yet is beyond me!
-
Balance is class but surely Taylor is in line before him? Taylor not a natural 6 but easily better than bairstow.
-
I agree Ballance is far better than Bairstow in the longer form of the game, and I'd say he deserves a chance soon, ahead of Taylor
-
I'd say that Bairstow is being growed for the Keeping spot when prior goes but he still needs to score way more runs as a No.6
-
superb batting from the England boys today, raining 6's at one point from Wright and Balance....we had a final score prediction sweepstake at 35 overs down and some of us ended up 80-90 runs out they went that mental!
less said about the run chase the better wasnt exactly edge of your seat stuff!

This.
Bairstow must have something on the selectors, I seriously don't understand how he's better than Ballance/Carberry - It would also be one less player for the 'Professional Yorshiremen' Vaughan and Boycott to keep harping on about!
Not sure about the groomed for keeping thing - he never keeps for England and he hardly ever plays for Yorkshire due to his England commitments. The form Kieswetter's in at the moment, is he inline for a recall?
-
Anyone from the forum going to watch the game tomorrow at Taunton? I'm headed in and it would be good to say hello to any forumites that might be partaking in a spot of cider and a day of top class cricket!
-
not sure yet mate, got offered a ticket yesterday but if its as one sided as yesterdays game i may just stay for our batting!
-
thats not a bad shout, could be even more runs on the card tomorrow. Afterwards we could always pop into m&h and debunk that myth about their bats being pre-made :)
-
Murdering Bangladeshi A bowling in a one-day friendly proves absolutely nothing about suitability for Test cricket.
-
Ballance's stats look might fine, but if you look at them more carefully - he's piled on plenty of runs in Zimbabwe against very modest bowlers.

Overall his record is England is mighty fine, but his first class record is worst than Bairstow's.
Ballance is a great limited over player though.
-
England lions go bigger, 367 this time.
Carberry with a big ton. And Taylor a century too. Butler and stokes smashing runs for fun at the end,

Perhaps the bowling's not very good?

I think its close between the two Bs and Carberry's age (and possibly health issues) mean he is a less likely selection.
The case for Bairstow's defence - he has average mid 40s whilst keeping in the Championship, and has consistently played innings of character - he's always the lad who does it in a run chase or when we're 20-3, and he evidenced this against the Yarpies last year. He has not been best treated by the selectors - after that Test he played very little cricket whilst racking up the air miles for eight months, and he struggled a bit to get back into the swing. He has not done badly against Australia either - no worse than Cook, Trott and Prior for a start - and is the likely long term successor to Prior.
People might baulk at the last bat - believe me, I'm one of them, because Jonny's keeping has never been, for example, at the level of his old man's. But England are obsessed with the idea of like for like and, as a counter attacking batsman at seven, they will hope his keeping improves as Matties did in situ.

Really? His father, while undoubtedly a very charismatic cricketer, was no great glove-man.
I reckon keeping wicket is probably something you need to be doing every day?
-
Surprising to see Bangladesh pull one over the Lions.

He wasn't great when compared to others of the same era - Knott, Taylor etc - but was (No Swearing Please) hot compared to most of the specialist batsmen doing it today.
