Hi all, having some issues with full balls on leg stump, often results in leading edges or inside edges.
When the ball is a little short I'm not having an pulling nor do I have a problem when the ball is pitched anywhere from outside off to middle, its just front foot shots when on leg stump. Any ideas on what I could try would be appreciated. Thanks

Wait for the ball to come to you instead of putting your leg forward, when the ball is quite full on the leg stump. Approach with a straight bat instead of playing across the line like when you do for a short ball to pull or cut.
Initially target straightish midon / midwicket and once you start to middle the ball, you can try to use your wrists at the last moment for a flick toward square leg or even fine leg.

As said above - players find it "easier" to try to whip the ball to behind square, when that actually can be a difficult and high risk shot.
Aiming to punch the ball through mid on is the way to go.

very sound advice by mad abt cricket.
I am sure it is mouth watering for many these full balls on leg. You can also try experiment with your guard or stance.

Bob Woolmer's video is good for this shot - he suggests showing the full face of the bat but using the top hand to close the face (just a little) on, or just after contact with the ball. If you're trying to flick it too much you'll close the face early and get a leading edge or miss the ball completely.

Ramp it a la Jos Buttler!

Or that ;)

Check your not falling over to the off side as well as you play it. This will force you try and hit squarer thus using half a bat. Try stepping straight through the line of the ball after you've played it. This is a great thing to practice in the nets with the bowling machine or bobble feeds. Good luck

I would say ensuring you middle the ball is more important than the exact placement -after all if you do middle it you should pick up runs regardless of how fine you manage to get it.

im shocking of my legs full stop i just trying smash the ball over square or mid wicket...
i cant remember any time in my playin life where i have pushed the ball to mid on diliberatly.
but this is due to me falling over so my balance is off.

Some good answers so far. For me, balance was/is the issue when playing anything down leg. I found it helped to be more side on with my body. I found I was pointing towards mid off/cover and would naturally fall to the on side.

Some very sound advice on this thread. I had an issue getting bowled playing this kind of ball this season as I was closing the face and letting the ball through the gap between bat and pad. I concentrated on playing straight and managed to turn a dismissal ball into a run scoring one, including getting a flick off my legs spot on. Might have been more luck than judgement though!
