Title: Ayrtek bat refurb
Post by: wilkie113 on August 21, 2013, 08:24:34 PM
After Tom posted in the wanted section for someone to refurb the bat, then if anyone wanted to buy it. I purchased it for a price I couldn't resist.
I must say it is a beautiful stick (not sure of it's origin, but I could take an educated guess)
Beautiful profile, but a bit of a problem at the cue end.
Will hopefully be adding a couple of dowels through the repair once I get a chance to.
Never repaired anything to the extent of this damage before, so please be kind! Any comments are always welcome as usual!

These are the images before,

After a fair bit of gluing, clamping and sanding action. Pretty happy with the outcome!

Top stuff Wilkie, a couple of dowells and that bat will be good to go! How long did it take you to fix up? I've tried fixing something similar to this, but the piece just wouldn't slot in nicely, so had to leave it a tiny bit uneven, but the bat still did its job. :)

Looks like a top job Tom! Awesome stuff.

Cheers mate :)

Gluing it up took all of about 20 minutes, then let it set for a good 24 hours. Sanding it down and finishing it took around an hour. But taking the extra time does lead to a better finish, by far the best result I've had from a refurb.

Nice work, looks lovely and almost new.

Do you think it needs dowels? If it feels strong, and be tempted just to tape it, and then. Use it.

It would be nice for piece of mind, but I have a lathe, so I may just add a bit of binding around the toe.

No dramas mate, she looks lovely as she is, just the ayrtek brands on the edges.
