Title: Broken Powerbow LE- What next?
Post by: pumakid on August 27, 2013, 04:36:04 PM
I got this powerbow Le at the start of the season and unfortunately it snapped at the weekend on the back just below the splice. I was gutted because I was just starting to score some runs (1000 in all comps) and get used to it. I felt that as it had only lasted 4 months that I would try to get gray nicolls and or owzat (where I got it) to sort out a replacement. I haven't heard anything yet as to what action will be taken but I sent the bat a week or so ago. Do you think I'll get a new one? Also does anyone know why this break could have happened? I wasn't playing a particularly aggressive stroke at the time-just a forward defence.

Here's the pics

That is odd. Bats come with a 12 month (or at least a seasons) repair/replace warranty that covers almost all circumstances. In my opinion, that damage can't be deemed as deliberate misuse or player error, so would be replaced as i highly doubt it is effectively repairable.

If you had purchased from us, we would have offered a replacement from what is off the shelf and then sort out a replacement for our own stock with GN.

If we had nothing that suited you in stock, we would be at the mercy of GN in terms of how long it would take to replace your bat from their stock. I imagine this is what is happening right now with your bat, Owzat are a big company so can't be expected to remain in constant contact with every customer, but if you ask for an update and get ignored, that is when i would start to worry/get annoyed.

Its not old so keep at them.
That's a lot to pay, so the replacement should be there for a bat so new!

Gutted for ya mate.

The guys at Owzat seemed really nice and a family run business by the looks of things (just bought a powerbow off them myself) - i'm sure they'll get you sorted out.
That said i've taken up Jake on his GN Ashes offer for a couple of bats for next season...VERY quick response to E-mails !!

So I got a replacement for my LE powerbow which I haven't used because it was getting late on in the season to be getting used to a new stick. I decided to use my number two powerbow Le which I only really used in nets because it wasn't as good as the initial one which broke. Earlier in the week this one also broke on the splice!!!!! I've only had it since may I would say but it's getting a bit beyond a joke that they keep breaking in the same place. Pics to follow

Thats some terrible luck!

This happened to my BB as well, so frustrating!

Imagine they will be a bit suss about sending you another one, but thats really bad from GN, I'd imagine they will help out!

If you didn't have bad luck you'd have no luck at all it would seem. Nasty couple of breaks there.  Has anyone else experienced gn bats having s weakness where yours have gone?

Weird thing to happen. My beloved Icon had the same fate

I may be wrong, but that sort of cracking stems from the handle being slightly too big for the splice, and not shaved down enough.

Coincidentally enough, this happened to a mates Powerbow 4 star last night at nets

Does cold weather have anything to do with this? My guess is that the moisture content is not right and hence the bats are breaking...

Just playing a straight drive - i'm not really sure how he managed to knock the whole back off.

This happened to a Hunts County Mettle i had when i was about 15. I played a forward defensive and most of the back of the bat fell off.

The guys at Hunts said it was the result of damage at the very bottom of the V of the splice (i vaguely remember a small crack running from the bottom of the splice into the bat itself) and it either occurs during manufacture or can develop during use. They replaced my bat. :)

Probably too dry or maybe storm damaged timber, bad pressing???

I think it's caused from the bottom of the handle being slightly too big which increases the pressure/ stress at the bottom of the "V" which could result in damage.

Sorry for the delay I've had issues with photo bucket. This shows the crack just below the splice in exactly the same place. I can't really take it to the retailer i bought it from because my old man brought it back from London when he was working down there, so I'm not sure what to do with it- might send it directly to the gn returns dept explaining that its my second thats gone in a few months with pics etc- what would you guys suggest?

That's exactly what happened to my mates CA in winter nets one year after it had been stored next to a radiator from September to January lol
