Top video though
-
Yeh it does look like it ! .. n cheers bud subscribe if you want ill be firing my camera on quite a bit on the machine over the next few weeks.. ill throw them on here too .
-
Don't mean to be too negative here but am I the only person that see absoloutley no point whatsoever on going on a bowling machine and having it fire down half volleys around off stump to smash as hard as possible?
For me a bowling machine should be used to practice good technique and shots that you are weaker at. What you have video'd will do neither of these.
You are overbalancing with your head and falling over to the off stump meaning you are unbalanced when you hit the ball. Partly because it looks like you're just trying to hit the ball too hard becuase its easy to do so from half volleys.
Set the machine on a good length on or about off stump and test your technique and your eyes out to hit the over pitched ball (the machine through variation will give you one every so often).
Try to keep your back foot movement down slightly as its ending up well outside off stumps and effectively 'squaring you up'. Play side on and this should also help you play much straighter in the V.
Just my own personal thoughts!

Nothing wrong with turning your strengths into super strengths.

Isn't everyone's strength smashing half volleys?

Do you play in the Liverpool and district comp mate?

The way I read it was he just set up the bowling machine on something just to test his camera. He wasn't working on anything specific and he wasn't doing it for feedback on his technique.
You say isn't everyone's strengths smashing half volleys yet give him feedback on how to improve. Just playing devils advocate here.

Fair point and i probably have been too harsh then.
You hit the ball well but think you just need to work on your balance and keep up nice and straight and not over-balancing with your head and keeping that back foot much more still. Your trigger movement seems to come across the stumps which is fine but don't go too far with it!

Yeh i did just set it up to test the camera and it was getting a bit dark and our astro isnt the kindest of things hence for the half volleys.. cheers for the tips

Yeh will be some more on tonight depending on the weather really.. Anything youd like too particularly see ?

If your astro is a bit dodgey, slow down the pace, get it on a good lenth on off stump and it will be good to see your technique.
As the pace will be down really think about keeping upright and well balanced with your weight coming forward into the ball. Really think about trying to play everything back towards the camera (if the line is straight enough of course) if not then in the V.
-
Yeh sweet mate ill do that later.. the camera is placed like behind where the bowler would release the ball .. not bang in the middle as the bowling machine frame gets in the way of the camera
-
Like to see your front foot make a more positive forward movement to the ball. Some of the off stump/off side balls you are throwing the hands at and arriving with your feet a bit later. It's relative to the speed of the delivery, but even a half stride would help - especially if you get a nip backer.

I didn't even have to watch the video to guess it was you, Dave!

Video of today.. had to edit it as there was 3 of us rotating on a bucket.. so theres more on the spin.. more tomorrow probably
-
You look a good player! Not to sure if I would use a trigger and a forward press against spin mind but each to their own. What gloves are they? Love the blue and like on the them

Cheers mate.. and yeh i only use it really .. as if i just trigger i get stuck in my crease so its something ive sort of worked on to stop me over balancing and it sort of works for me . and there a pair of lukeys gloves i think he was a sponsor on here a while ago but his shops only half n hour from me (hes in preston) so i get them from him.. there good gloves but i use them for netting and woodstock in games

Yeh mate first division at rainhill
Got your first ton in the Div 1 have you :p
Well batted mate keep it up, a lot of people in the Liverpool Comp make it very difficult for young lads to get on. Ignore them and keep working mate

Hahah took me long enough too .. who you play for bud ? .. and its not too bad
-
Looks good mate, head is a bit lopsided when you set up but it sorts out when you trigger.
Its not easy on a bowling machine when you are used to a trigger move i find. my last effort on a bowling machine, the first 4 balls knocked my off stump out of the ground!

Yeh i actually find it quite hard ... as the balls comes from the same place but you dont pick up the line till a lot later.. where as with a bowler you see it the whole way.. if that makes sense
-
Exactly my problem
Went for a net with toenails and the first 4 balls at 65mph I didn't really see them and using my trigger I was all over the place .... Knocked my off stump back 4 balls on the trot!!

With it being indoor John it was probably around 70mph as it comes on a hell of a lot quicker! I reckon I'm gonna get some contact lenses to try and help out batting
-
Think I'm gonna get some too

Yeh its defo a different experience to a bowler bowling but its good for on your own if you just set a auto feeder up.. only problem we have is we have 3 different types of balls ones the old yellows with smaller but more holes then the red ones .. and then other yellow ones with bigger holes.. they all react different off our not so friendly astro nets.. so can get naughty sometimes
-
Again just a update vid as some of you asked first ever time facing a side arm weird but good experience
Cricket Nets .. Me batting (sidearm) 9th sep (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyTUBJa1wBY#)

That big lad's a batsman, right?
-
That big lad's a batsman, right?
Well he tries to be haha .. Dont worry he doesnt actually bowl ever !
-
Loved him swearing every time he gets hit.
Your nets just like ours. A little short.
I find if I have a 4pace run up with the side arm, it gets good pace and im more accurate. The guys at our club prefer the extra pace too!

Yeh first time we used it.. the camera ran out of memory not long after this n the lad throwing it got it coming out very quick.. problem we had was the pitch was very 2 paced as was damp in the morning

Delete that god awful music from the video lol!

Ah right, I suppose I can forgive you haha!
Look decent in the net mate, keep at it
-

And it means you can't hear the swearing every time you hit the bowler out of the net, didn't take an expert lip reader haha ;)
-
Looked good mate one question I watched you and the other 2 bat in the other videos you all seem decent but all 3 get very square on.
Some great flicks off your leg mate
-
Cheers very much.. and yeh i do get very chest on .. but i find it helps me out a lot as i can hit the ball basically any where off the back foot plus dont mind getting pinned.. as for the chubbier lad he struggles with the short stuff.

Few more on there now from preseason on the machine if anyone fancies a watch...
-
You look a very good batsman with a good technique. I do think you need to test yourself a lot more on the bowling machine though. I've just watched most of your last 2 videos and from what i've seen every ball that came down was a half volley. Not sure if your not confident about the astro but you need to move the length back a bit to at least where its hitting the top of off stump.
I can't see any bowler coming in at 80-90 mph, and if they are i can't imagine they are going to be feeding you half volleys.
As I said though, from what you have shown it looked very good. Try to not walk too much though, try and stay a bit more balanced.

Yeah your spot on about the length .. the problem we have is our astro is seriously naughty so its hard to practice anything other than that.. which is an issue i agree ! .. cheers for the tips anyway
-
No problem at all. Just also had a quick watch of the side arm vid. Some very nice shots off the legs.
-
Lucky you get a cut deck to practice your batting on, certainly helps replicating match conditions and pace/bounce of wicket. Was that at your club's ground ?

Cheers mate.. to be honest when the seasons started and we start netting on decks the videos will be a lot better.. not much can practice on astro

yes it certainly does mate ! .. and yeah at our ground .. my dad helps out on the ground so if the weathers been ok and so on we get to net on the square.. which beats the astro any day
-
Might just be me but your head seems to get well over on off stump? Great for cover driving when the balls outside off but you might be struggling when it straightens up and you need to straight/on drive?

yeh it does look like that but i feel like im hitting it pretty well through mid on and straight in all honesty
