Title: Kookaburra 2014
Post by: Vitas Cricket on September 03, 2013, 10:59:15 AM
I will be viewing the Kookaburra 2014 range in store at approx 3pm today.

Hopefully i'll have some pictures and pricing to bring to the forum, as well as a pre-order offer along the lines of our recent Gray Nics one.

Watch this space....

The time here is 5 o'clock !!

Sometimes it wouldn't hurt if you used your brain.
It may take the Kook rep a little more than a few minutes to show Jake the new range. Also, I'm sure that he will then have  a little more to do than simply rush to the forum. Sometimes real life takes precedence!

And I'm pretty sure Vitas isn't in southern Africa.

Any ideas about pricing yet? realise it's a bit soon...

Aside from the Bubble range (which is a standalone retro release) there are 3 core Kookaburra ranges. The Kahuna and bestselling Ricochet are retained, and a new addition to the family is Ian Bells new bat, the Impulse.

Similar middle position, but far less concaving than typical Kook bats.

It is, aside from the Ultra Menace and Menace T20.

Further details on the core range will become apparent in the coming days, for now i am concentrating on the Bubble.

Looking at the moden Kooks, I really struggle to see the difference inthe profile to the Kahuna, Impulse and the middle bat which name i've forgotten cos it's on page 1 of this thread :)

I know there is a difference there, but it's not obvious to my eye.

i agree Tom, it is absolutely perfect. They were a little worried that it wouldn't 'fit' with the rest of the range which carries the type of Kook branding we have become accustomed to in recent years.

I say 'who cares?!' - This range will be the smash hit of 2014 in my opinion.

To the eye they do look similar, but reading bumph and rebooking I believe. The kahuna and impulse are the same shape/style (low middle concaved) but one has the "flat" face and one has a conventional face.

The ricochet has A high middle, flat face and similar concaving.

Thank god for the bubble with a non concaved kahuna(although it says slight concaved which makes me believe the light and more dense bubbles will be concaved like the rest, doh)

I agree, i had a huge smile when our Kook rep said 'and here is the Bubble' whilst pulling one of those beauties out of the bag. I would have been so dissapointed with a Ricochet carrying the word 'Bubble' on the sticker.

Impluse looks nice, although I expect the Bubble to be more of an impulse buy.  Not much point debating the differences in shape with these bats, as there rarely is any difference in shape with Kookaburra.  Nice to see the Bubble have what looks to be a slightly lower middle and less concaving though - I guess it's just a bigger edged version of the original?

Wow they really have bought back the bubble in all its glory good to see from kookaburra after some lacklustre bats over the recent years. Would love one, Jake  does the bubble still have the edges in the bubble or not it is just hard to see from the catalogue.

Looking at the kook kahuna range I gather the bubble grading is as follows.

Bubble players = kahuna players (limited edition/ G1+)
Bubble legend = kahuna 1250 (G1)
Bubble star = kahuna 800 (G2)
Bubble power = kahuna 400 (with a 'pro shield cover') (G3/4)

Would that be correct?

Although the 2014 kahuna range seems to go,
Players
900
600
Prodigy

That is about right in terms of the grading for the Bubble. I'm not sure i would class any Kahuna 800 i have in stock as grade 2 though, lovely bats. Bubble Star is £150, whereas a Kahuna 800 is £230.

Also there is a Kahuna 1250 and a 400 in the 2014 range too.

That is a typical example of a Kahuna 800 i have in stock right now, i've got about 5 of them all very similar.

Players are listed as the very best willow Kook has available, 1250's are listed as 'test match quality' willow and 800's as 'professional quality' willow.

So it is all very cloak and dagger as they don't put a number on what 'professional quality' means.

Thats where i think some confusion has arisen. A Bubble Star is £150, whereas a Kahuna 800 is £230.

The bat above is more likely to be a good example of what a Bubble Legend will be like.

Although you are right, the Star is listed as professional quality willow.

By round edge, do you mean round face? Since the flat face fad has come in, Kook have always had at least one round face bat, this year it is the Recoil. In all honesty the Impulse isn't a million miles from the recoil, new graphics aside.

If my Bubble Legend arrives and looks like that Jake I will be really happy.

Did anyone see the pads that Michael Carberry was using today in the second ODI?

The colour scheme at the back seemed to be orange and turquoise like the Impulse, rather than the colour scheme of the Recoil. Might be mistaken, but they looked the same colour as the impulse.

Personally i really like the Impulse's colour scheme, then again I am a Miami Dolphins fan!  :D

Note the long cut gloves lower down the range, the 750. These will be very popular i think.

Do you have the Midas range in the UK?

Nope.

Kahuna, Ricochet, Impulse, Bubble and the Ultra/T20 Menaces is the UK range.

Looks just like the Menace mitts we had for 2013 in the UK. We actually sold all the mittens we had at full asking price. I fully expected them to be hanging around until end of season sale time.

Kids absolutely love them.

Clearly this is going to be an expensive off-season.

I am genuinely torn between the Bubble and Impulse softs - there's a 27-yo me sitting on one shoulder saying "Bubble, Graham Thorpe, Bubble..." and the (ahem) 38-yo me going "The Impulse gear will look great with your B3 stickers!"  Jake - hide them all away when I come over...!

I know I won't be buying a Kook bag though - why do they insist on the same black and lime year after year?  I know, signature colours, but not everyone wants the Kahuna range head-to-toe...

Lovin' the WK range...

Thanks for the pics of the Bags Jake, definately liking the Pro Combi wheelie, but question for you which one will last better in your opinion the Kook or the GN100 bag
But i think i may be ordering a lot of stuff from yourself to go with the new Bubble bat

Have to agree with you i've got some Ayrtek gloves at the moment best gloves i've ever had, but the Bubble and Impulse look so good, so told Jake already i'm off to see him when they all come in so i can net with my Bubble bat and try the Softs,
As for the bag i think the Pro combi in the Blue is the lead runner for me but i do need to see the Gn100 as well to compare for sure. but yes not a massive green and black fan myself unless i was sponsored of course then i would love it all (Possibly)

The Pro combi looks decent - I need to see one in the flesh as it were.  From my experience Kooks seem to have one huge compartment, whereas the GN and GM bags are well thought out.  I may be wrong and would be happy to be proved so - it would be nice to have a Kook bag for all my Kook gear!

Agree - if I were sponsored I'd be asking if they wanted me to drive around in a lime green car as well!

Second this. Really not sure what I am going to do for gloves next year. Want something as good as the Ayrtek's or I'll not want to use them.

Bit sad to hear about AB going to Spartan but i'm assuming thats alot to do with the IPL as most Spartan bats are Indian made if i'm not mistaken,
As for the Kook range i think i'm ready to place a big order Jake, mailed you with it.

Would be great to see Bell using it in the first Ashes test, as Strauss did in 2010/11 with the Legend...  he can use the Impulse afterwards, just wanna see it on the big stage again!

Jake; I did clock the AB Spartan info - didn't want to corrupt a Kook thread by going off point  ;) Spartan are going all out (especially if they get KP).  Kook could maybe do with one or two big signings...

Spartan are really trying to get a big signing in all the teams! AB would be another huge signing for them. Wonder which Indian star they are targeting?

For some reason I really don't like the Midas colour scheme, just like the GM Luna colour scheme didn't catch my fancy.

I tried some gold in the stickers for Vantage however it lacked any 'wow factor' and it was rather dull - which is why I disregarded it, unfortunately until the printers can make it stand out I feel it will always be a dull colour

Agreed that the Luna and Midas lack the 'wow factor'. The gold vantage stickers didn't look tat bad though, but the choices you went with worked better. I still like the white stickers of the Chase FLC range and the white Puma ones.

Agreed, printing wise on stickers - silver chrome has a reflectiveness about it that really makes it stand out above anything else. It makes any other matte/vinyl colour look good around it - similar to the chase FLC and puma stickers you mention.

I'm surprised there aren't more white stickers - they stand out so well and I think would look great, particularly in a test match.

David at B3 has also said the copper stickers they have are not selling well...

I've always been of the opinion that stickers can look totally different when paired with different/seemingly unusual coloured grips.  For example, Tom Maynard (RIP) had a GM Luna that looked great with a royal blue grip.

Still deciding which BUBBLE to go for.

Hopefully should be getting a custom bat soon, so was looking at the Legend or Star as a second bat. The Star looks to be decent value but obviously not seeing or knowing much about the quality of the bat is making the decision difficult.

Any help? Have you seen the star range buddy?

Ive gone for the Legend Bat with Legend gloves but also the impulse pads as they look better and seem better then the bubble ones, but i've gone all Kook for next season, bag and the like as well, but will keep hold of my Ayrtek gloves just in case, so will be having a clear out as soon as i get home, but go for the Legend you know it makes sense

Go for the Legend - reckon they'll be great bats for the price...

I'm back and forth on the softs daily.  The retro fan in me loves the Bubble range but the Impulse colours are outstanding.  May have to go with one range for midweek and another for weekends - I really can't choose!

Well, I use GN legends, slightly older spec than the ones you got, but basically the same. Can't really give a better endorsement!

The top Bubble pads are fantastic though, comparable spec to their 'normal' high end pads, but with classic Bubble styling.

I was so torn between the Bubble pads and the Impulse ones, as both look absolute quality, and compared to say the new GM and Slaz and to an extent most of the Grays range, they stand out way above in my opinion and yes i did look and read for hours before deciding, but glad i ordered both the Legend Gloves and the Impulse 900's from Jake and looking forward to getting them later this year,

Jake any news in Bat dates and when we can look but can't touch, as i'm dying for my Bubble
