Title: Hello + Redback Paradox
Post by: HTJB on September 12, 2013, 05:34:22 PM
Hi,

I've been lurking on the forum for a few weeks but figured I'd introduce myself with my new bat which arrived today. It was pretty much came down to choice willow or redback, but a couple of a guys at my club use Redback and they really recommended them so I took the plunge.

Went on a cricket tour to devon a couple of weeks back and popped in to see Gary who was very helpful and ordered my bat.

I asked for it to be just over 2.7 with a slightly higher middle and more concaving then their standard paradox shape (basing it heavily on my old bat which I took in for him to see)

Really happy with what I've got, it's just under 2'8 with a grip and picks up fantastically. Had a quick go with the mallet and the ping seems great but more on this later. The bat's for next season so plenty of time to knock it and prepare it.

Pictures (hopefully):

Welcome to the forum, that looks a lovely bat, and chunky for one just under 2.8! How you enjoy your stay and buy lots of gear. :D

Those grains, that heartwood, my ideal weight, welcome to the forum.
If my own membership is anything to go by, you'll be perfectly happy with this bat, but go and buy another 4 for the season anyway  :D

Sorry, just a quick question. It's got a scuff sheet on but no tape on the edges, should I put this on? Not sure I've seen a bat with a scuff sheet but no tape..

If the scuff sheet overlaps the edge there's no need for tape too.

Depends on the scuff. If the scuff feels a tiny bit grippy, then I would actually put tape over the scuff at the edges too. Thing is, if you edge the ball, sometimes these scuff sheets tear, the edge tape just minimizes the chances of that happening, and also provides a little more protection. :)

I would Put edge tape on for sure, keep them edges intact.
