The collection has grown and then been shrunk to "my favourites" due to a case of CBF-fever. The list is as follows:
1 Black Cat Shadow
2 Bat For Africa
3 Kookaburra Ricochet 750
4 Kookaburra Rogue 900
5 Kookaburra Kahuna 400
6 Salix Praestantia Grade One
7 M&H Original High
8 Gray Nicolls Ignite 5 Star
Is it reasonable to indulge myself in the new season?.....trying to keep it to just the one though.....may be two at a push...

You're asking the wrong people on this forum!
Too many? Some people would say 3 is too many! Others would say a dozen isn't enough!
-
You can never have enough!
It depends really, if you find using different bats all the time affects your game mentally, you should probably stick to 1 or 2.
-
Been consolidating myself, and will be down to 5 soon enough...

I have 16 at present time, I use 1 on Saturday in the league and rotate the rest through bet sessions and Sundays mid week games. As they are all pretty much the same weight it doesn't effect me really what bat I use.
I am moving on a couple though but that is to make way for some winter pre orders
-
I have 1 bat! That's it, simples
(It's not that I don't want more though :()
-
My collection currently consists of 7 bats, with one hopefully due to arrive next week.
I'm also looking to get a Mongoose MMI3 and (when funds allow for it) I'd love to buy Chad's Tomahawk
In answer to your question, you can never have too many bats, as long as there's room to store/hide all of them it's not a problem ;)
-
Limit = As long you can afford to buy them if you have the passion.
-
At the moment ive got 8 and am just starting to think its getting a bit silly. I stuck to 1 bat last season and scored loads of runs averaging about 45 ive used a few this season and only averaging about 25! Definatly gonna try and thin my collection for next season. Got a couple that i havent even used yet so no more bats for me( unless something special comes along as i still check ebay and the forum most days!?! Arrrghh!!) like surfers in search of the perfect wave there whole lives i think us bat geeks are always on the look out for the pefrect bat.
-
I currently have 3 that i use in a sense and 2 more as part of my retro collection.
Spartan Cg Authority last seasons Graphics
Vantage Lithium poss for sale nice bat just don't use it
Rob Pack Custom now my no 1 bat
already ordered a Bubble legend for next season from Vitas and can't wait for it.
In the collection
KoKook Ridgeback
Kook Bubble

2 quality bats is enough, 1 for matches and 1 for nets/damp days
Anything more and you get confused
-
This thread is uncomplete without CoverDrive >:(
Oh btw i have 3 and i feel like i need more :)
Redink
Gray Nicolls Nitro carbo
Gray Nicolls Xiphos 5 star
-
I've had as many as 5 at one time but no am down to a paltry 3 (of which I really need to move one on)
I love buying bats but they just don't get used and therefore it's a bit of a waste of money for me as it sell them for less than I've played. I guess it depends on how much you play but even the most keen player isn't going to carry 8 bats around to every game! Personally I think your 8 is more than enough but if you want a new bat then go for it ;-)
-
For me 3 would be the limit though I prefer 2. 1 for matches and 1 for nets and wet weather.
-
If you afford to keep them then there is no "too many" number
-
I have 9.
Red ink match bat
B3 midweek/end of sat innings bat
B3 net bat
B3 t20 style & mongoose mmi3 for when the game situation needs a miracle
Puma Karbon & gm zona for when I need a light bats(manual labour means sometimes my arms are dead before cricket so use a lighter bat)
I also have a mongoose corr3 and gn oblivion extreme pro that I no longer use. But don't want to sell.
-
I think I have come to the conclusion that 2 bats in the bat is enough
-
I've got 1 match bat, one net bat which was my last season bat and a 3 year old bat for tape ball, backyard and wet play. Each year I buy 1 bat and just cycle through. I aim for the same weight and concaving each year. I reckon that's enough.
-
In the days before the forum I would have had two at most. Now I just can't help myself buying when I like the look of something... I normally end up selling them on if they don't feel right though (usually at a loss).
This calendar year I've probably had in excess of 12 pass through my hands, now have 4 with a 5th on its way. My justification is that I tend not to buy as expensive bats as some on here... Bottom line is though I will only use one or two at most per season. The rest will sit in the corner or occasionally get a net...
-
I had managed to reduce my collection by around 30 bats this season by selling some on forum, on eBay and to teammates and other cricket playing associates! So I'm happy! Although I still have a way to go before getting my collection to sensible amount!
-
I think I have come to the conclusion that 2 bats in the bag is enough
Agree with this, I only ever have two in the bag.
The other 6 sat at home are also a requirement though haha
I like to alternate which ones I use in matches so they all get a go
-
I tend to look at it as a hobby as much as anything. Although there is rarely money to be made in selling on used bats, it has been widely proven on here that bat collections are admired. I know some will say that they are there to be used but is it a crime if people buy them because they want to possess a particular bat? The history of bats is fascinating and (possibly) some of the current bats may become collectors items in the coming years.
I say if you have a serious collection of bats it should be applauded, whether you use them or not. We are share a passion on here and I for one wish I had a wider collection - if it means that some hardly ever get used or occasionally used at a net then so be it
I currently have 3 with a Bubble pre-ordered and wish I had three times that amount! I constantly get bat envy on this site :D

Have you guys started to make budgets just for cricket gear? Think i am getting to that point!

As long as I can afford to live after buying kit I buy it!
-
2 is fine for me, usually just use the one bat for netting and games and save the older one for wet weather
-
Since I started refurbing bats I'm up to about 7 bats from taking old ones from team mates on the cheap!
In reality I only have the one match bat (Warsop Platinum) as sold my Blenheim that was a touch too heavy for me.
-
Looks like I can treat myself to one then.......now to decide which one......
-
If you have fewer than Pete then you can't possibly have too many...

That should be the rule!
If you have less bats than me, then you haven't got too many!
-
Well, if that's the rule two it is then!

We discussed last week at cricket, and came to the conclusion that it could be the same number of clubs a golfer can have in his bag, so it gives me room for a few more.

14 golf clubs per a bag with about 20 spare/backup ones in the garage??
-
I'd say about 5 useable ones and then a couple more being knocked in or prepared for match use

Don't forget the old set in the old bag from when you started... Looks like 50-60 seems reasonable :o

I think 3/4 is ideal
Match,Training and an extra (muck around/t20 tc)
the 4th could be wet weather

Interesting subject. Personally, I have two bats in may bag but only use one of them. The other is a spare for the odd net, or if my usual bat breaks. I have four other bats in my collection. Three are retired sticks - DF 405, Centurion, and GM Purist (broken but could be repaired). The other is a new bat, which is custom made by a good man at our club that has started to make bats. This is currently being knocked in and will take over from my current match bat which has a death crack going in a V from the splice down (however, performance hasn't been noticably affected just yet).
I only play league games on Saturday, a few T20 games, and net maybe twice a month during the season, so I don't see any point having lots of bats that I could use when they will only get minimal use. Having a young family and other interested means a drain on finances so as much as I would love to have some of the bats I see on here, it's not going to happen. I'll just replace bats as and when they are needed.
Saying that, I do drool over some of the bats on here, and would love to try out some of the modern designs coming out to see how they perform. So, I'm probably slightly jealous of those of you that get the opportunity to use / try so many different bats !!

Come on - join THE DARK SIDE!
The Dark Side is very tempting, but I think it's too late for me.
However, I can pass on some words of wisdom to my son for his future !
