Being an opener, I thoroughly enjoy watching Michael Slater's batting back in the day. He would try and dominate every bowler.
34 huge sixes from Michael Slater! One of my favourite videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8t9QydIMpU#)
Who is your favourite in your batting order ?.
-
Chris Broad
Classy opener and didnt take no (No Swearing Please)
-
Chris Martin was a true inspiration to me, I base myself on him ;)

Toss up between Matthew Hayden, Steve Waugh & Greg Chappell.
Sorry just understood the original question... Ah well my fav batsmen above
-
I've always enjoyed watching Michael Vaughan and Ian Bell from a technical point of view. So tried to mirror their technique until the last few seasons.
-
And a serious answer, as a lower middle order specialist I enjoy the entertainment value of Broady and Swanny, although I don't base my own technique on either haha

Don't know why but I preferred Mark to Steve.

I have heard somewhere that Swann used to open for his club.

I have heard somewhere that Swann used to open for his club.
In his book he says he did. I think he's opened for Notts in hit and giggle cricket too
-
Lance Klusener
-
Robin Smith.
and Verinda Sehwag
-
Adam gilchrist
-
Mohammad Yousuf, Micheal Vaughan and Ricky Ponting.
-
Steve Waugh
-
Dean Jones (And I'm English!)
-
Gotta be Gilly. Wicketkeeper-batsman, batsman-wicketkeeper, you choose.
-
Always liked atherton & Stewart as classy opening bats, got a lot of request for the way Gilly bats in the same way no matter what the context of the game and also as he was so honest to the spirit of the game.
Also Freddie always gave it his best with the talent that he had with the bat.

Damien Martin

-
Kevin Pietersen
Adam Gilchrist
Shane Watson
Ricky Ponting
Michael Vaughan
Chris Gayle
Sachin Tendulkar
Mike Hussey
All have their own class so I can't pick just one.
-
With respect to where i bat its gotta be Shane Watson (He's batted in just about all positions), always is looking to attack which makes him easy to watch. Ive also always liked watching Amla and Clarke as well.
-
As a number 3 - Brian Lara has to be my fave.
-
I always liked the 3-4 combination of
Nasser Hussain
Graham Thorpe
always thought Thorpe was a world class batsman and one of only a few who could play Warney either on thr front or back foot brilliantly
-
being an opener....who else can be my favourite player other then SACHIN.....
*SACHIN DESERT STORM GOLD* Sachin Tendulkar 143 vs Australia Sharjah 1998 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMubYAbRbgc#)

I'll take a liberty or two if I may?
As a former middle order bat, it has to be Sir Viv and Graham Thorpe.
As an opener for the past three seasons I've always admired Greenidge (my earliest cricket memories are from seeing the West Indies in England in 1984) and Slater's and Hayden's approach (even though I'm a pom). I also admire Cook's perseverance and ability to #digin (!), I named one of our cats 'Strauss' and will never forget watching Gooch's 333 and 123 against India in 1990.
I've also taken up keeping this season and my favourite all time wk/batsman has to be Sangakkara - pure class...
-
and it was followed by this
Sachin Tendulkar 134 vs Australia 1998 Sharjah (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GY0gGWs4J8#noexternalembed)
-
A a top order batsman it has to be Hashim Amla, i dont have wrists like him but i'd like to think my thirst for runs is the same !
-
Carl Hooper, Mark Waugh, Lara, Graham Thorpe growing up. Now Kallis and Ian Bell.
-
Lance Cairns - so impressed I bought the bat!

-
If ever I find myself in a run chase I try and think... 'What would Michael Bevan do?'
pure class on his day
-

I am so old, I've batted 1 - 10, so lots of choice and so many I have enjoyed watching but I'll pick only a few!
Hooper, M Waugh and Kallis, yes please.
I'll add Richie Richardson and Inzaman Ul Haq (both had so much time to play the ball) into the mix.
English players - Vaughan (technique) and Gooch (it must have been the moustache!)

He made it look so easy. A little dab here ,a little push there and the next thing you know he has won the game .

There's another innings against Zimbabwe where he really gave Olonga and company a bit a stick. Those were the best days of Sachin . He wasn't the same batsman post his tennis elbow injury.
-
Ricky Ponting and Sir Viv Richards for me
-
Mark Waugh and Damien Martyn are pure class. I modeled my batting on Mark Waugh for a while but struggled with his high-ish/late-ish backlift against faster bowlers.
Then it was Michael Slater and adopted his trigger. I stayed with that trigger only until recently when it started messing me up.
-
Don't know why but I preferred Mark to Steve.
Mark was easier on the eye - a pure stroke maker, and he made it look oh so easy and stylish. Even if he got out cheaply, he looked good doing it.
-
Graham Thorpe - class player in an average England team. Always loved watching him bat.
Ricky Ponting - brilliant attacking player, one of the all time greats.
