Hi guys,
New to the forum and I am looking to get back into cricket, have not played for over 16 years (used to be a batsman). Recently played two games and to be honest I am crap. I would like to get some help so that I could have a good should to get into my team next season. It's only village cricket but would like to gain some confidence and get my batting sorted. One of my main issues is that I lack confidence when I get to the crease and do stupid things eg: went to slog first ball and got bowled! Completely stupid.
Any help?

Where are you based KRS?
-
Croydon
The team I play for in kent do not have nets or train, but they are a good bunch of lads to get started with. However if I don't get my batting sorted then I won't have much chance of playing. I'm 31 lol feel old now

Where in Kent are you mate we do indoor nets all year and I am a level two coach
-
I am poo too, but we might be able to get a few like-minded souls together at th Oval over the winter and work on our deficiencies.
-
I am based in South London Croydon, however the team I am playing with is in Ightham (Sevenoaks area) which is 45 mins drive away.
Where abouts are you based?
-
We down the other side off Kent and we use a local school for nets we got a bowling machine and that but sounds a bit far for you to travel

Sounds like a great plan!
How many have you recruited so far?
-
Those searching for self-improvement and to be a little less poo in West and South London will make themselves known. In addition to that, cricketing colossi such as Tim2000, Paul IJC and Buzz may be interested in an Oval net.

Wouldn't mind a little winter net if you ever arrange one I'm nota million miles away.

We might have started something BIG woohoo

Ah yes, not forgetting the diminutive batting pixie that is Chris 'The Hole' Soulman - he'll teach you a thing or two!
-
So far we have three! Anymore people interested?
-
Yes, if it's The Oval, I'm definitely interested!
My club train at the Latchmere Leisure Centre in Battersea, which would work out cheaper. Facilities are, of course, better at The Oval though...
-
I'd be keen to get involved and put some faces to the names on here! I'm working down in London so would certainly be keen on joining in.
On that note I'm also on the lookout for a club, I played a few matches for Witham CC (a friend in the office captained the 2s) but would ideally be after someone closer to London! Any ideas??

Is this training only for your team or can people turn up?
-
If anyone is interested, I got in touch with the Ken Barrington Cricket Centre at the Oval and they are now running group coaching lessons for £15 ever Friday from 7pm - 9pm.

It's mainly for our club, but others can turn up and we have had a few non club members there recently - the first net is free, then it's £5 per net thereafter...
-
I usually use the Cricket for Change place in Wallington, as that's not far from me. The surface is much better than the oval!

I saw this but wasn't sure how it worked. Do you have to hire the nets out and turn just a much of your mates just practice? There doesn't seem to be any coaching available.

There is a coach on hand, but not sure if they run coaching sessions as such
-
You won't need coaches with us lot on hand!
Lets treat ourselves to a session at the oval , and a nice cup of tea afterwards?
Why not get 5-6 definates who can bat and bowl a bit, and we'll have 2 hours. Participants would be expected to pay the organiser via PAYPAL in advance - no one should get caught out financially as in any previous experiences!
The poo players are there to learn, and the good players are there to teach.

We have about 5 people who are up for it

Okay - I'll organise it, first 4 applicants to confirm and pay are in - they should really be based in the South West of London I think.
Do people want a weekday evening or a Saturday (now that the season is over for everyone apart from Saunders) those with time on their hands could pop in and see Paul IJC.

I'm not in the south west of london or london at all to be honest but the Oval is about an hours drive for me at worst so count me in Bruce. Is there parking there?
-
I'm in. Weekend would be preferable, but could do a weekday
-
Mr Cat, I'd love to join you at the Oval... Midweek of course!
-
Okay - anyone who is genuinely interested, can you PM me and I'll come back with a proposed dates etc.
From bitter previous experience of organising a few things on this forum - TIMEWASTERS NEED NOT APPLY!!
