Title: Champions league t20 players. Team choice,
Post by: smilley792 on September 29, 2013, 12:12:49 PM
Was watching the game yesterday. And a commentator commented on how poor Brisbane heat was.

The other commentator said, not suprised as they'd lost 4 players to other franchisers.

Which the original replied, that if another team was to steal players, they should be able to replace them with non attending players from a franchise to make the comp stronger.

Fair point. But I decided to have a look who had been stolen.

Perera and steyn being the non Australians, but to my shock Mitchell Johnstone and shane watson were also ones playing elsewhere.
This shocked me, as surely you'd want to play for the team from your country?(even if they are franchisers and not there club)

I then noticed that pollard chose Mumbai over t and t(which is his country!!!!)

All the teams stealing players are ipl teams! And I'm wondering why.

Written in there contract?
They think a better chance of winning?
Or more money for playing for the ipl side?

Either way I think it's shocking. What's your thoughts?

I'd say more money playing for an ipl team. and you wouldnt want to upset them by playing elsewhere and putting your contract at risk. i believe the teams who are weakened get a fee from the other team

In my mind the CLT20 is a bit of a sham, the players dont really seem that bothered and the indian biased (players, teams, locations) makes it essentially an IPL2

It's incredibly unfair, and creates an unbalanced competition, basically the IPL own the entire league.

IPL contracts have it written into them that if the team make the CL that the must represent the IPL side. These players 'local' sides then get compensation.
The only IPL player that didnt do this was Sanga, he choose the Kandarata Marrons.
And the CL is owned by the BCCI, CSA and CA- it is designed for the Indian market, one part of the deal is 50% of the tournaments must be held in India and that timing means it cannot be held in Australia.

It's is just a money spinner for the boards not about the cricket.

I'm still enjoying watching it. Apart from the one sided dead rubbers.

Really hoping a non ipl side win!

Still think the ICC should take this over. Just a shame they can't actually compete with the BCCI , and are too scared to make any dramatic changes like the BCCI.

On the other hand , kind of following Highveld lions because of the few Hampshire/ex Hampshire players in it  :D. Does anyone know why McKenzie's not playing? Has he been dropped or injured?
