Here's a beauty I am making up for an ex playing colleague of mine, a fantastic player and an even better man although I can't name him at this moment. It's just in its shaping stage then shaped then its first coat of oil before it's sanded and then another coat of oil before all the final sanding and finishing touches. 2-7 will be its finished weight. Very much a wand to me.

Ooooooh, that is a lovely shape. Really really like that.
Wood looks lovely too.
-
Lovely looking bat, your bats are so very tempting.
-
lovely bat.
Think these aldred bats are some of the best on the forum, consistently very good
-
Oh my my my!! That looks like a beauty. Top work there fella!
-
Lovely bat!
Is this the standard shape or are you doing something special here?
-
Its a tweak on the standard shape. He's not asked for that but I can remember the bats he was using at Derbyshire when I played with him there before he left, funny how things stick in the mind. I am just loving every minute of this career after cricket every day gets better.
Quick question to those bat companies out there. If in the next 18 months 2 years we had developed a handle that meets all the icc criteria and every other ruling out there and is of the best standard out of new products at the right price would it be of interest to you to but British.

I'd happily look at a British handle. Pm me with some details
Shape looks lovely on this one Paul. Lucky
Mate you have there

Really in the early stages at the moment just playing around with a few products and different configurations and will give them a good trial. So when I think I've got it right I will put some notification out.
-
That's a thing of absolute beauty!
-
Perfect amount of grains on that for me. Absolute beaut!

What he said - I'm one of those weird guys who thinks 6-9 grains is plenty. Superb looking blade.
-
Think 6-9 gives perfect balance between performance and longevity personally. That and I like to see a more of the white wood
-
Ok so here's the finished product for this one which is for one of my old playing mates at Derbyshire before he left and became an even bigger legend he wanted 2-7 came in at 2-7 1/2 finished.

Lovely!!The finish is amazing.
Really excited to see mine.
-
That is an absolutely stunning bit of wood!! Top work that Paul. I'm sure your mate will be happy. Looks massive for 2.7 as well
-
Blimey! I look at this profile at 2'7 and wonder what Paul could do in 2'10! Scary! :o
Keep up the good work!

Bloody hell, that is a thing of beauty...
-
Can I ask how much that 2.7 was Paul? And do you do long blades (obviously will come in heavier)?
-
All supremes to custom bats members are £220 posted in uk. Yes we can do long blades. We have to make those up specially though

Food for thought! Cheers.
-
When do we get to start guessing the pro?
Without saying names, can you confirm, did he play international cricket?
-
Yes
-
Michael DiVenuto or Dominic Cork ;)
-
Maybe Ian Blackwell?
-
Chris adams
-
Some names coming out the woodwork there
-
I always kind of assumed that Grizzly Adams would be a heavy bat kind of guy.
-
No grizzly was a 2-6 guy. Popeye forearms :D
-
PAJ DeFreitus? Deven Malcolm?
-
PAJ DeFreitas..... this time spelt correctly.
-
Daffy !!!!
-
No it's not daffy :)
-
You've got us scratching our heads here Paul - very interesting re the weights of bat the top guys used though. Erm would it be mr 'Slats' Slater?
-
Not many used heavy bats. There were a few but not that many. I'd say 2-8 2-9 was the average. Re player even if you've gussied the name already I won't say who it is without his say so. You've come up with some great guesses though.
-
If he does a photo for me when he gets it I will post it if it's ok with him
-
In that case, I look forward to seeing a picture of Karl Krikken. (Am I getting warm?)
-
Got it - Fred Swarbrook!
-

Not an international.
-
Kim Barnett.
-
I'm going with Dominic Cork - possibly Derbyshire's best ever product.
My mum and dad are from Chesterfield, so my dad has always followed Detbyshire (in fact my grandmother used to help with the catering when Derbyshire played games at Chesterfield) - one of the first live games I saw as a kid was Derbyshire v Kent in a one day trophy (can't remember which one, but it was still white clothing)
It was before Cork had been selected for England, but I remember him scoring 50 and taking some wickets too.
Also remembered Carl Hooper crashing it around for Kent and I think a young-ish Mark Ealham had a good game too.
Barnett and Krikken were in the Derbyshire line up - might you have been playing too Paul?
-
No, you weren't:

No my first year on the staff was 95 and that was the first year of coloured clothing. In fact there weren't many companies made the coloured pads then so the ground staff used to paint them up and if they used the wrong paint when the ball hit them their was an explosion of paint flakes at the crease. It used to be hilarious to see the quick bowlers hit the pads and an explosion of colour in a first class game. We alway seemed to play kent and chesterfield. It was one of the quickest tracks in the country in the mid 90s used to love playing there.
-
I still have some of that first coloured clothing ours was an awful light blue trouser with hideous yellow shirts and jumpers. In fact the jumpers were still proper Aaron knitted ones. They looked dreadful. I still love the proper kitted sweaters in cream far better than these fleece things and last a lifetime but the yellow ones were truly minging

I think you should drag them out and show some pics Paul.. Haha
In fact I think we should run a weekly Bedtime Stories by Paul Aldred telling interesting stories from your career... Maybe even with "illustrations" ;) :D
-
Don't think I'd survive those exploits now a days I'm too old to cope

Beautiful setting too, if memory serves...
(May I have John Morris in reserve?)
-

Any coloured clothing on a cricket field is minging. Full stop.

I agree closely followed by pure white whites instead of cream

Agree with that Paul - 'coming in to bat - John Travolta'
-
Agree with that Paul - 'coming in to bat - John Travolta'
I just pictured John Travolta strutting all the way from the pavilion to the middle to bat - in T20 format - "Staying Alive" song blasting over the PA system and Travolta refusing to put on a helmet as it will mess up his hair!!
-
Sad man Pete. I actually just pictured Pete dancing to "Staying Alive" in the living room while holding his match bat...in his bedazzled whites with hair slicked back
-
That's the last time I Skype you whilst doing my relaxing in my glittering whites!!
-
And I'm not the only one who does it!!!

England, you mean?
-
I also think it also looks rubbish when club sides wearing whites have 'a million' different brands and trim colours on display.
