Title: Somerset County Sports
Post by: SomCountySports on October 02, 2013, 02:02:58 PM
Good afternoon All,

Finally joined up to the forum at last, hope everyone is well, and champing at the bit for the 2014 season.

Firstly, a bit of background about SCS, ran by Ex Somerset CCC Cricketer Mike Parsons, and assisted by James Brice and Unicorns Captain Keith Parsons. We have a sister shop in Devon County Sports ran by Wes and Sarah Fowler, situated in Paignton.
Some of you may know, we have also merged back the Sabre Cricket range into SCS and the old designers are no longer working for Sabre, and after reading some of the comments on here, are trying to re-design the range for a Feb launch, interested in hearing peoples views on this? all comments welcome, good and bad, believe us, we've heard a few!

Anyway, looking forward to joining in with discussions, and also happy to help with any queries etc. that anyone may have toward any of the brands we stock.

We've finally seen all 2014 ranges with the exception of a couple, Salix being the major one, as they were on holiday when the Trade Show was on!

What does everyone like for 2014? It seems light blue is a popular colour at present!

Personally at SCS we love the Kookaburra impulse, and think this will be the biggest seller in 2014.

Look forward to future interactions with you.

Mike, James and Keith

Welcome to the forum.

Good to hear the designers for Sabre have been sacked, they were dreadful.

Looking forward to the m&h gears. We haven't seem much on here so you could win many friends with some pics when you have any of there gear in stock.

In hindsight, im not sure we should have chosen those stickers! The new stickers, we are nearly there with, maybe a forum preview soon, black/yellow will be staying, however completely re-vamped and have added a blue/red range, personally we are very happy with how its shaping, also with it being brought in house, we have lowered our prices, which we hope will help.

Unfortunately due to us being at Somerset CCC, and M+H also being here, its not really possible to stock the gear, however we do have some in the Devon shop, so I will see if Wes has any photo's of the new range, did see it at Lords, and if honest, did like the look of the CK22 range.

Sounds good.

We did see pics of the new bat but I think that was it.

I really don't mean to sound rude, but how do you justify the prices that you charge? You seem to be a lot lot more expensive than any other retailer. Am I right in thinking theres a membership card that gives everything a 10% discount?

Welcome! I did cover the trade show in 2012 and tried my best to make the Sabre bats and softs nice, but even I was unable to make them look pretty! They seemed proud of the design at the time so felt a little like Simon Cowell when someone tells him how good they are and then sings like a cat in pain!

Great to have you in board fellas 😎

Hi Nick,

We run a loyalty club scheme which entitles you to 20% off cricket equipment, this was never really advertised that well, however this year we have put our loyalty prices marked onto all cricket equipment, therefore bringing prices down,

Thanks

I like the way you display your bats, however I always notice how the stickers are in poor condition and the bats have little marks on them. Could be displaying the bats that way is not best for the bats?

The gloves always appear a bit like a jumble sale. I thought that was the case with the prices

i actually popped in the shop this afternoon to have a look at bats as they have the gray nicolls nemesis in stock. the loyalty prices certainly make them very competitive with other retailers i have looked.

i like the shop as its well laid out and has plenty of room for people.

i will be going in again before the new season to look at buying some balls for the new campaign maybe even a bit  of discount if i buy enough lol

I have to say I think its a bit cheeky trying to fleece the extra 20% from people who don't read the small print about the loyalty scheme myself!

We have tried several ways to display bats, and have found this works the best for us, with matchdays here at the ground, we have a lot of browsing of the bats, and naturally a lot of children try to pick them up and cause slight marks, and in terms of stickers, we have found that certain companies stickers fall off without touching them

All our prices start at the R.R.P given to us by the manufacturers, we then like to reward our loyal customers who choose to buy from our full range of cricket equipment rather than on the internet, its very disappointing how some companies offer ridiculous discounts as soon as the ranges are launched, they will be selling at Trade Price soon!!!

I never like schemes that offer different prices to different people - I just think they lack transparency and exist as a way of trying to get as much money as possible out of naive customers.

But the bigger point is - why would you have a problem with companies offering discounts on RRPs?

Aside from the vastly inflated numbers cited as RRP by most brands nowadays, this is merely the action of a competitive market and is really the minimum that the customer has a right to expect.  The only reason to have a problem with this would be if you felt that the market suited you better to maintain artificially high prices....?

Any one can have a loyalty card at SCS, it started originally as a discount for clubs that purchased their team clothing through us, and evolved through the years, to anyone being able to obtain one,

Well, with some of the prices that retailers are selling items for, are practically trade prices, maybe we don't get the best deals!!!!

So why not just mark all your prices that way?  Would look a million time sbetter to the consumer?

We've just had a move around on our gloves, so next time your passing, come in and see what you think?

As stated in a previous post, we do now mark our equipment with the prices
