Title: My Bat History
Post by: Number 11 on October 21, 2013, 11:32:02 PM
Hi all, just thought I tell you about my bat history.
My first was a Slaz V12, superb bat loved it till the day it died. Huge lump flew off the toe and my mate who was umpiring kept it as a souvenir. I then sold it on for about £20 even with the lump missing  :D

I replaced this with a GN Elite 5 star (might have been 500). Long blade and pretty light, more a stroke players bat than a thumper. It was okay but difficult to find the middle.

I went a while just borrowing a few until I came across a GM Cannon Original. As soon as I picked it up I knew it was a monster, 2 lbs 13oz, picked up like a 2lb 8oz, no one believed me on the weight. This was a huge pinging bat with middle from the splice to the toe,  a mate hit a six from just below the splice. It was so good I had a copy made by Warsop. Sadly the GM suffered terminal delamination, an area about 9" long and over 2" wide was just bouncing under finger pressure. I tried drilling and gluing but that only lasted a couple of shots and it had lost all it's ping  :(
I eventually decided to plane off the loose wood and see whats left. I took off around 6mm to get to clean wood, it now weighs about 2 lbs 8 oz with 2 grips. Not knocked it in properly but it does seem to have a middle again.

I have been using the Warsop copy now for about 7 years, still goes well but never quite had the ping of the GM, this is was also around 2 lbs 13 oz until last season when I decided I needed a lighter bat and took my plane to the back and shoulders, got it down to 2 lbs 10.5 oz with 2 grips. Middle is a little lower and balance has shifted a touch to the toe but it's still going okay. As it was a few years old, I thought it's time to find a replacement.

My mates said I tend to drive a little on the up and should try an Amplus, so I did  :D
Not used in anger yet but a little knocking in and bouncing a ball tells me, IT PINGS LIKE A MONSTER. So finally got a good replacement.

Here's a few pic's
Left: what's left of the GM Cannon
Middle: what's left of the Warsop replica
Right: next years weapon of choice.

Doesn't sound like you needed much encouragement to get the Amplus...

Nice review

Very little indeed, especially as three of the team have a Master and 2 Solutions and an S6.
