Good article today re; Michael Carberry.  I would suggest that his mental attitude as much as his ability has got him a recall...

Has anyone one else ever wondered how Bruce French looks younger now than when he was playing?

Australia A squad:

No Bailey or Mutchell would suggest they're in for Brisbane.
No Fawad either, are they jiding him or has Lyon done enough to be nailed on spinner? Has Wade fallen behind Paine as No.2 keeper?

Moises Henriques (capt), Glenn Maxwell, Trent Copeland, Ben Cutting, Alex Doolan, Callum Ferguson, Jon Holland, Usman Khawaja, Michael Klinger, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine

Bailey and Johnson both selected in the squad. I seriously have my doubts about Bailey, I'll be surprised if he can buy a run in the series.

TBH I think it's good Phil Hughes and Usman Khawaja have been omitted. Also removed from the last warm up match.

Both need to play a full season of Sheffield Shield to regain their confidence.

Bailey probably shouldn't have got a call up. Doolan's FC form merited a call up.

Saw a good comment on Cricinfo that could be summed up as:

Bailey approximately equal to Collingwood.

I thought it was a good point. He's obviously got cojones. Whether that's enough...

Bailey is the kind of guy you want to root for, not brash and goes about his business. Even though on batting friendly pitches, he was the best Aussie batsman in India and seems to have the stomach for a fight. Would be very keen to see how he goes against the English boys and I am hoping he does well. We need another Collingwood, Hussey :)

Very interesting article that one about Carberry.... Think he is a shoe-in to open. I hope he does well.

I wouldn't have thought that there is an englishman hoping otherwise, he's a popular player.

Who needs Aussies when you have Michael Vaughan http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/24917181 (http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/24917181)

Yeah I read that this morning, I don't think it's particularly helpful to the English cause in the event we actually do need Bairstow to keep.

Not great for the ex-skipper to come out with this, but I think he's talking sense.

A half chance to get Clarke when he's on 20 could be the difference between winning and loosing at that level. I know I'd prefer to see a Keeper who has kept regularly in match situations behind the sticks in an Ashes test.

Vaughan certainly has a point. Why does Bairstow merit a place ahead of say Davies who has kept wicket plenty of times for England(albeit in the shorter forms of the game). I understand that Davies lost his place in the selectors mind after a poor 2012 season. But after being one of the few shining lights in a very poor Surrey team this year and averaging over 45 at a S/R of nearly 60 you'd think that he would surely be considered a safer bet as a reserve keeper than Bairstow?

I suppose the selectors are showing faith?

I agree though, there are plenty of more reliable keepers with more accomplished FC records. They must've invested heavily in Bairstow and want to give him a fair crack.

Fancy Root to have a big series now back down the order, can see him challenging Cook for top run scorer. Think this series will see Root really put himself out there as one of the best young talents in the game.

Prior looks set to be fit for the first test. Also Ben Stokes using a New Balance bat...when did that happen?

I predict Cook and Clarke to be leading run scorers for their respective teams

Anderson and a toss up between Johnson and Harris as the leading wicket takers

He's looking off into the distance thinking "Maybe I should have walked"

Seriously though, he should be using Adidas/Ayrtek.

At least Carbs will have one on, any idea if it will still be ayrtek branded or adidas? As he was a previous user?

Anyone see the #askboof twitter feed last night, massive backfire for Cricket Australia after it was hijacked by England fans - really is a great read.

It will be branded Adidas if he's wearing the same one from the warm up games.
