Title: Purist. Not bad for a 404!
Post by: Vitas Cricket on October 31, 2013, 01:55:25 PM
Part of our GM stock order arrived today. Included in the goodies was this particularly nice Purist 404.

Just under 2'10. 6 straight grains. Can't complain for £80!

Great looking bat there Jake!

GM's grading system really baffles me - If they grade 100% on looks how can they justify charging an extra 100 notes for an 808 or 909 compared to this?

GM's Blurb...

404
Seasoned bleached Grade 3 English Willow
Knot marks with some stain/speck

There is a knot under the sticker but apart from that it looks a beauty.

Only some cheap junior softs in this delivery Alvaro.

The knot as well as the marks up near the shoulder downgrade this i guess. It does have a bit of imperfection in the playing area, the photo has washed this out slightly. Still a belter for £80 mind.

To be fair that's where the GM production process comes into it's own. Not many G3 willow bats can be finished and knocked in to this level for £80, in the UK.

How does it ping Jake and what's the pickup like?

Picks up about right for a 2'10. Doesn't feel bottom heavy which is good. The ping is pretty nice, not going to blow your socks off but no dead spots and the middle feels long and forgiving. Makes a really nice sound as well. and as with most GM's i think it is only going to get better the more it is used.

What I can see with this one is that yes it has a pin knot but it is bleached so it could have some staining which needed to be bleached.
Also there is no 909 this year so there will be a bit different between the 808 and Original, we are doing the 404 which is bleached and has clear cover and replaces the old 505 Grain covered bat and the 606 this year will not be bleached, so natural with the usual GM Now.
