Title: Joe Root Six6 Player Edition
Post by: Vitas Cricket on November 04, 2013, 06:15:55 PM
Hi all,

Robin has 2 Graeme Smith Epics for himself, and absolutely loves them. He decided to take the plunge and get himself another GM Player Edition this year.

He has gone for the Joe Root Six6, and here it is.

I really love the Six6 F4.5 shape, but i must resist, i already have a Bubble and a Powerspot to add to my own collection. I wish i could have every bat we stock in my bag...

Lol! Mate I would be going mental with all the bats there. Even worse you have a bowling machine, I would be tempted to test all the bats all the time. Dream job!

Just out of curiosity is there much mark up on bats?

It's a very fun job i have yes. :)

Not as much as you would think. Most of these sales highlighted recently (Sports Direct, Lords) are selling at a loss, i assume to clear space for new stock. Bats make the healthiest margin, but in the internet age it isn't massive. And this has to be offset against the fact that shoes, helmets and to an extent pads and gloves offer very small margins.

Jake, couldn't you have waited until I left for Hong Kong before putting up these pics?! :-[ Looks lovely, one of the most beautiful looking bats I have seen!

Makes sense.

The reason I asked is that I recently found out that Selfridges, Harrods and Liberty mark up women's fashion upto 400%, handbags are an example of this.

They aren't cheap by any means. We plan to sell them at £450, which based on my initial searches this morning is the cheapest you will find anywhere.

Last year we sold them at £425 despite many other retailers breaking the £475 barrier for them.

We won't hold bats of this price in stock, but we are happy to order them in, something we will be doing for a CBF member quite soon hopefully.

Krs. Harrods and Liberty have license to print money thanks to their location and the types of customers they get. Your typical Chelsea resident doesn't care if their Gucci handbag manufactured for £50 costs them £200 or £2000. We are lucky to have a few regular customers who are addicted to top end gear, but no-one in the cricket industry (genuine sellers anyway, can't speak for the people selling out of their car boot or some well known ebay sellers) is out to rip anybody off.

Might be able to slip it into my bag for the IJC and/or Choice events if you are able to go to either?

Any chance you could put up some photos of the Graeme Smith Epic? The one in the background looks huge

Took some a while back, in comparison to an off the shelf Octane LE.

The Epic has been used ;)

They are some amazing Bats. I asked to see Robins Players Epic when we were at your net session the other weekend, not only was it a grainy beauty but the pick up was sensational as well.

That Six6 also looks like an amazing bat

Agreed, just the right amount of next years "in" colour. Similar to the Newbery Kudos I suppose, in that the colour is used for trim rather than the main splash itself, but with the GM you don't need a pair of binoculars to work out who made the bat.

Had a little hit today in our net with this bat.

It's an absolute howitzer!

I've never owned or used a GM - my best mate swears by them and those are both stunners, definitely coming round to them...

I picked up a GM Duellist 909 from a charity sale for £15 couple of weeks ago.  Took a chance - very grubby, cleaned it up a bit but not sure if the cracks are lasting damage.  Got it home and it pings off the mallet very well!  Jake; I'll bring it down on the 16th and you can give me an expert opinion.  If its a goer may get it refurbed at GM or B3.

Never gonna be a match bat but may be useful for a net.

The Epic and Six6 look superb - great finishes on them - and that Octane isn't bad either!

The Root Players edition is retailing for $925 here in Aus. Makes my bat seem cheap in comparison!!!  :o

I don't care how good a cricket bat is, that's just too much! Scats at 700 or so is enough

I would've thought that having Joe Root endorsing a bat should make its value decrease, but yeah, I don't reckon I'd pay in excess of $900, the bat I have right now cost $700 and That would just about be the limit I'd go to. Who knows in 5-10 years time, $1000 may be the going rate for a top-grade bat. Incredible...

Lol...took me a few mins to get that!!

Question regarding the player editions. Are these made with the same shape and weight as used by the player? How much does this one weigh?

Well, Robin has loved all his previous players bats so much that he's got himself another. They were even kind enough to engrave his initials and his playing number, 12, onto the bat.
