Title: Wahab Riaz - Stealing a living?
Post by: wasted_talent on November 06, 2013, 12:34:45 PM
Just watching the Pak v SA game.. Just dont know why Pak would select Wahab Riaz over bowlers like Junaid Khan?
His bowled pants all series and this particular game his bowling like his giving batsmen practice.. Absolute rubbish.

Not sure how he makes the Pakistani team? Political selection perhaps?

Everything is political there.

I never know why players from the U19 team that won the 2006 cup never made it into the senior team.

I think he played 2 or 3 ..... since 2006

Also Abdul Razzaq would have been a good shout for the ODIs

One of the main problems hampering the development of potential talent is the lack of A tours in Pakistani cricket. So many times you brilliant emerging players full enthusiasm dampened by stagnation and a lack of opportunities. This has been case in point with the under 19 world cup sides for too long. The new up and coming players are only set up to fail and therefore the board/captain/coach can say we tried them and they didn't have what it takes.

Totally agree in regards to wahab, never rated him, and should be in the team.

He played in the 2010 world cup if I remember correctly. He is a genuine all rounder that i believe needs to be given a real go in the team. Young players need nurturing and backing from the captain and that just isn't forthcoming.

i think he threw a tantrum and got himself back into the 20/20 squad. How long does he expect to play for? Look forwards not backwards. Personally i think they need to put out the old guard to pasture, and the likes of Hafeez, Malik, Farhat, Taufeeq, Afridi etc. have had enough chances and now they must blood in youngsters for the sake of the future. In the tests the only ones who should stay that are getting on a bit is Younis (our only world class batsmen) and Misbah while he's still scoring runs.

Riaz was implicated in the spot fixing scandal, even though he was never formally charged.  Read into that what you will...

Why do they never play the extra batsman? Clearly batting is the problem

Great question, mindless selection. Problem is batting, strengthen your batting line up. Already have 5 bowlers in the 3 spinners and 2 seamers.. And worse case if you need someone to bowl a couple of overs, use a part timer. But no, Pakistan never seem to follow logic.

Wahib finally dropped. But no extra batsman, why would a captain continue to criticise the batting yet never strengthen it

Very fair point. You'd think he'd show more confidence in his 5 bowling options and pick the extra batter. Though not sure its only the skipper who has final say in the playing XI?
