Saw Kallis had elasto plast on the top of his handle apparently to aid pick up and wondered if anyone had done this and if it works or not?
-
de villiers also does this and so does shah i think it helps keep top hand in control more
-
yeah quite a lot of people do it, i think they call it a counterweight.
-
how do they do it and what does it do? please explain? thanks
-
they literally wrap elastoplast around the very top of the handle and loads of it to make this bit weigh heavier and keeps their top hand in control more ratheer than their bottom hand taking over, kallis has the most of it his is huge and shah and de villiers has a little bit

im gonna try this when my bats come back from refurb :D
-

-
were can u buy elastoplast?
-
Drug Store
-
cheers thanks

My Newbery Cobra's i had in the late 80's and early 90's had counter weights on the top of the handle, they were awsome 3lb bat that picked up like 2.9lb awsome.......never seen it on any other bats since......
-
The Newbery Multi Balance had a metal tube that unscrewed at the top and you added weights to change the balance, have a 3lb'er here that picks up a lot lighter.
-
Amazing the difference is'nt it Talisman.........can you still get them?
-
Any pics mike?
-
Wouldn't it be illegal to have metal? or would it pass because it's not on the blade.
-
that was back in the day when i guess the regulations on the composition of the bat and handle were less stringent
-
It came into fashion and then went out again, there may be some knocking around but they would be illegal.
-
but wud it be legal to have a little bit of metal??? as its 10percent or something??
-
How much weight was in the metal tube?
Surely elastoplast doesn't offer much weight as a counter balance.
-
They'd be nothing to stop someone putting a denser wood in the top of the handle though would there?
-
I would select Ash from Latvia.
-
I'd go for Lignum Vitae from the Windies
-
I have a deal going on with Latvia so that will be my choice at this time.
-
I've used Ebony and the effect was less than impressive. I'll be buying some lignum vitae soon so hopefully it will be better.
-
Just wondered if anyone had any experience of using elastoplast as a counterbalance or I saw Vantage cricket say cut up grips into inch long strips and apply that to the top of the bat, so has anyone tried that?
-
I have tried the bit of extra grip at the top of the bat and it works well enough, it won't transform you bat into a magic wand with perfect pick up though... on my bats i have used a combination of lead tape, some cloth tape (to old the tape in place) and a bit of extra grip.
It works better if you usually hold the bat near the bottom of the handle. If you hold the bat more like Adam Gilchrist, don't bother!
-
Tried this today with some electrical tape, wrapped a huge amount around the top of the handle, have to say it doesnt weigh that much but can already feel a better pick up, i'm liking this concept!!
-
Watch that the grip doesn't pull the tape down
-
is it likely to??
-
I have insulating tape which does
-
I have often thought about adding a piece of lead the size of a ten pence piece to the top of the handle
-
Isn't it lead tape that the pro's use at the top of the handle?
-
I have tried a stopper used for baseball bats, it may be making pickup light but I was feeling not comfortable with it
