While perusing the internet I came across a bat I hadn't seen since I were a young lad. I had an Insignia at one point when I was younger and it was a gun so couldn't resist buying this. Although it weighs 2lb 11oz, the pick up is crazy and at no point would I believe it was a 2lb 11!
Just thought I'd post a few pics for you guys to see. Not sure ill get a chance to use it with a few others I cant let go of, this may well wait its time in my garage.

that duckbill shape toe! :D
-
Had limited edition one was a top bat
-
awesome, I genuinely wish that county would do a modern reflex...
-
Love the profile.
I have a Hunts County Insignia which is the same shape as the reflex. Was the Insignia before or after the Reflex ?
-
Man a real blast from the past, looks a cracker. Are you going use it or add it to the collection.

They were both available around the same time, although the Insignia stayed around longer. I have one of each and I wouldn't expect the insignia to look like the reflex at all .

I had an insignia and my brother a reflex. 2 amazing bats both low grade bought from the old bloke at the local sports shop.

Were they the same shape??
-
Very similar, I think the reflex was more cut out at the bottom than the insignia.
It's in the garage at my parents along with some old school bats with bits missing and stump marks on the face where the bat face was used to hammer the stumps!!
I have a picture of me about 4 years old with a County Colt, think it was the last time I played a text book forward defensive
-
I will put some pics up tomorrow of the insignia I have. It's the same shape as the reflex ? Unless it's been re stickered at some point during its life ?

No, far from it. I'll dig my two of and photograph them side by side, unless someone wants to pull the two profile shots from the vintage bats thread.

What, no 40mm edges?? What kind of bat is this??
-
If anyone asks me nicely I'm sure I could arrange for Uncle Tony at Hunts to churn out a few bats of this shape.
-
A team mate still uses one of these, they were (both?) obviously built to last! It is the total lack of bow that I find interesting Jake, difficult for any bat maker these days not to install even a slight one.

You only have to call him. He made me an original Insignia only about four years ago and direct from the factory was unbelievably cheap.

Minimal to no bow & nice thin edges, now that's a proper bat!
-
My 'latest squeeze' has minimal to no bow and quite thin edges but with a pretty modern profile and I've found that I'm getting a lot more vfm for shots played. Coincidence? I don't know.

Here is the insignia that I have. It's for sale if anyone is interested.

I don't know how much Hunts charge direct, but i do know how much cheaper i can get exactly the same product that talent cricket are offering under 'custom made bats' on their website.
-
So what do you guys think of the Hunts Insignia I have ? Is it a reflex with insignia stickers or is it an Insignia in the same shape as a reflex ? Either way it a nice bat. Think I will make a replica myself as i love this profile.
-
It is an insignia - the reflex has a different toe - if you look straight on, up the spine.
Both bats look great though...
-
Looking at the shape of the hump, I suspect it is an Insignia that they took more out of the toe on to improve the pick up.

I am trying to imagine how it would look with slightly big edges and moderate concave profile. Would make an interesting profile similar to these :

Got 3 reflexes made by Martin Berrill sitting in my garage...was my bat of choice as a youngster and can still remember ordering my first over the phone to him in Glocs!
-
But blazer, would it have the hole down the middle?

Uncle Tony will sort you out for £200 flat for a pretty bit of wood down to bout £100 for an ugly one.
My friend that went to see Tony the other week got an Insignia based bat, which was also the shape for the woodworm wand/torch.
He is more that happy to make them, he is not a fan of big edges!
-
That's about right. When I was buying, g2 willow was 110 squiddies.

The 200 quid quote kind of helps with my point.
As a retailer with access to trade prices i can get you the same thing for 175.
As we have such a great relationship with Hunts, i would be able to handpick the piece of wood on your behalf with Tony (or Matt, he is also a very good batmaker) if you were unable to visit, and if you were able, i would be happy to accompany you on the tour, choosing the cleft etc.
Either way, this is for another topic, lets get back to admiring reflexes and insignias. i have a lovely old reflex in for a refurb at the moment. The small edges and lovely shaped toe are really bringing back memories.

At school a lot of my contemporaries had the the synchro lite Rapide, which was a lower grade but a lovely profile and they went, more or less.
