Title: Croydon Nets
Post by: Krs on November 12, 2013, 11:32:52 AM
Anybody in the Croydon area want to join me for a midweek nets session at Cricket4Change?

It is £24 for an hour, we don't get the use of any machines, hence I need a buddy lol

Not sure to be honest, the nets are indoor.

This is their website: http://www.cricketforchange.org.uk/about/indoor_cricket_school (http://www.cricketforchange.org.uk/about/indoor_cricket_school)

could well be interested and might even be able to round up a few more.

Please do lol I am not that good at balling lol

Cool! Well we are allowed a max of 8 people per net.

Let me know what day and time suits you guys and I will sort it out. I cannot do Fridays :)

Well I have called them up regarding times and dates. Wednesday and Thursdays currently are fully booked in the evenings.

The best day is Monday where they have loads and loads of spots.

Monday 18th 7pm to 9pm is free

Monday 25th 7pm to 9pm is free

Obviously we can do 1 hour slots but I think if we get 8 people a 2 hour slot would be better.

Both nets are free on those days and times.

If you are seriously interested please put your name down on the list.... I will start lol

A quick synopsis of the net....

Fattus took the most wickets and generally felt he was awesome.

Hitshard bats, well, the ones we used, are most excellent, and Chris's match bat was stunning.

Kookaburra bats three letter acronyms are simply for shipping.

Wicketkeepers apparently make great bowlers (according to the keepers playing).

That HitsHard is Fabulous. I think we all wanted to take it home...
Title: Re: Croydon Nets
Post by: tim2000s on November 26, 2013, 07:19:41 AM
I don't know about anyone else, but I am feeling it this morning. Tomorrow will be when it properly kicks in. Well worth it though. Thanks for arranging it.

On a different note, we tried out a Slazenger V100 TAS Test last night, given the recent interest in TAS inserts. £70 from the Lord's sale and despite the huge amount of concaving, it surprised us (well Charliemott and me, I don't know if anyone else used it). The middle was actually decent, and I really couldn't tell you whether the TAS inserts make a difference. What they do seem to do is cause the bat to make a slightly unusual sound. Whilst the HitsHard that we all fell in love with was the bar setting bat, at 200 notes fewer, it would score you a fair few runs

Plenty of lovely willow on display, including Aldred, GN, GM, Kook, HitsHard, Salix and B3. I think everyone got plenty out of it and we are now waiting for Fattus to put his pics into the topic...

Oops, and I nearly failed to mention that as a result of a couple of hours bowling at people, I even managed to loosen my big toenail from the nailbed.... That'll be falling off soon!
Title: Re: Croydon Nets
Post by: ajmw89 on November 26, 2013, 07:56:51 AM
Had a great time last night. Shame I was a bit poo! (I blame a combination of winter rust and niggly injuries!) Got a nice purple cherry on my thigh where somehow Tim or Fattus managed to miss my strettons!
Soulman's hitshard gear looked top notch. Shame I'd batted before it all came out!
Title: Re: Croydon Nets
Post by: trypewriter on November 26, 2013, 08:02:19 AM
There was certainly a lot of bat stroking going on with many a covetous glance at the HitsHard bats in particular. There was more big wood on show and more 'oohs and ahs' than in a film of dubious nature.
Big thanks to Kaedyn for arranging it - without someone driving a project such as this it never comes to pass.
My personal highlight of the evening was surviving a Fattus hattrick ball which contributed to the common good as none of us would have heard the last of it.
However, I am now, officially, Bruce's rabbit, which is something of an elevation for me as I am usually classed as a ferret in the batting line up.
Again, thanks to everyone, with special mention to Chris Soulman who clocked up mega miles to bring some superb gear to look at and use.
To quote the late Steve Marriott: 'we really had a gas'.
Title: Re: Croydon Nets
Post by: charliemott on November 26, 2013, 08:09:18 AM
That hits hard was absolutely immense! A follow up on what Tim said about the tas,it has an absolute gun of a middle, is very concave, and makes the most bizzare sound if you middle it. It's a lovely bat, but I couldn't use it simply because of that sound  :( fattus had a lovely nemesis too but I only manage to hit a couple well with it.

I was annoyed too - I had to shoulder most of the burden of bowling (what a hero!)

It is fair to say that most of my victims were mesmerised by the sight of a large, baldy figure lumbering in and unleashing deliveries that seemed at least 2 yards slower than they expected.

I am stiffer than a pervert's hanky now though.

Sorry Brucie!! I wish I could have helped you out on the bowling but I was rubbish!! You were getting enough wickets to share around anyway.

I am still dreaming about that Hitshard! The softs are awesome to! HITS on the knuckles of one glove and HARD on the other! SO GANGSTER!!!

Shame that's me bowling that's me bowling that thunderbolt lol

D'you know, I couldn't work out why it looked like I was bowling right-handed - now I know it's because it's you!!!!!!!!!! It must be a worry for you that we look so alike! There was me admiring my high knee lift - what a twonk!!!

Mind you, I reckon you've got the biggest rack out of the two of us  :D

Mate my rack is getting bad and needs attention quickly on a serious note I reckon I've lost a good 5-10mph over the past couple of years due to weight gain. Will defiantly need to pull my finger out over pre-season

But yes you are right about you being a twonk, although a very pleasant twonk with very handy bowling action to knock that swings perfectly into the middle of a bat
